My wife is in her third trimester. Her doctor told her to stop taking any juices due to high amount of sugar inside them, causing high blood sugar which increases the baby's size and is very very dangerous for baby and especially mother. What do you think? Please share your helpful advice and encouraging words.

Juice and sodas are drinks with tons of sugar so it would be a good idea to just stick with milk or water.

The condition is called Gestational Diabetes and is fairly common in women 24-28 weeks along. Because of the pregnancy, your wife's pancreas may be having difficulties producing enough insulin to process excess sugar. Because your wife's sugar levels cross the placenta into the baby's system, the baby's pancreas will create more insulin to control the higher sugar levels. The problem arises when the baby is born. Having been use to higher sugar levels, it will have too much insulin in its system when its born causing extremely low sugar levels which could lead ultimately to death. Another possible result of uncontrolled GD is larger babies. This could cause complications during delivery or force a pre-term delivery when the baby's lungs have not completely formed. However, if the doc only told your wife to stop drinking juice, she is probably only borderline. I was diagnosed with GD at 11 weeks and have been put on a "no sugar/low carb" diet as well as medication at night. Juice is only one of many things I can't eat.
