Unpasturized Milk And Lack Of Vitamins Help

I'm currently in another Country (China) and I had just became pregnant (5 weeks). I won't be heading back to the states until I'm in my 14th week, and in the meantime, My relatives here have been making me drink milk, fresh from the cow. They say it's really good for me and all the pregnant ladies here drink a cup of it everyday. (They still give birth to healthy babies) They boil the milk before drinking and I know unpasturized milk is very harmful, but does the boiling help? It must be fine, since the people here all gave birth to healthy babies..right? Another thing is the parental vitamins. I bought one over the counter and I have no idea what it includes. The doctors recommend this vitamin, but I'm clueless about the specific number and percentage of vitamins in it. Is it OK that take this first and then when I go back home, take the "correct" parental vitamin from my family doctor?

Boiling the milk should be fine, that's what they do to pasteurivze it. I also have taken generic prenatal vitamins the entire time. Just be sure it has 800 mcg of folic acid in it.

Unpasteurized milk is generally dangerous stuff. Boiling it should make it safe and milk that isn't homogenized is better for you. Pasteurizing milk is really just heating it for a very short amount of time to a specific temperature to kill all the bacteria in it. I would only caution you to make sure that any milk you drink is heated thoroughly. As for the vitamins, any is better than none and squished is correct, as long as the folic acid levels are good better vitamins can probably wait until you return to the states.

Milk fresh from the cow is not an unhealthy food at all. I grew up on the stuff, and it was unpasteurized and unhomogenized. All you have to do is boil it and let it cool down.
