Anyone With Interstitial Cystitis

My urologist thinks that I have interst_tial cyst_tis, but he can't due to proper testing for it because I'm pregnant. I've had a couple of bad episodes with it: very painful and uncomfortable. They gave me a prescription for Tylenol with Codeine, which I only take when I absolutely need it, which has only been about 3 times. Both my urologist and my OBGYN say that it's ok to take it, only when I need it, but I still just hate taking it for fear that I'm hurting my baby. I also get instillations, which they say are safe. But who knows. Anyways, just wondering if anyone else has this or maybe thinks they do.

Ok, sorry I got my words mixed up...He can't do the proper testing for it because I'm pregnant.

My mom has IC, she also has fibromyalgia (which I also have). I don't have any good advice for you except to experiment with your diet and read up a lot on it. I know it is very painful and I can only imagine what it's like when you're pregnant.

I also have IC. I was diagonsed before I was pregnant, so by the time I became pregnant I had already discovered my trigger foods. With IC you really need to discover what triggers your episodes so you know to avoid that food or drink. Eating the right foods/liquids makes all the difference. Urinating when you feel the urge and NEVER holding it help, and make sure you urinate after intercourse also. Having an episode is awful, but IC can be managed.

Oh, and don't take those over the counter cranberry pills they sell at drugstores that are for urinary tract health, with IC those will cause you to have an episode.

Hi! I also have IC and I just found out that i am pregnant. As far as testing goes there is no definitive tests, just ones that suggest that you have IC, I was told that the instillations are safe since the meds do not enter the blood stream. I would also avoid trigger foods. I have been taking supplements from a naturopath that specializes in IC and stomach issues and I feel terrific. He is on the web and does phone consultations, I dont know where you live but he is based out of Boston and his name is Dr. Skip Snow.

Thanks for your responses. I've had a couple of episodes, but luckily haven't had one in about 3 - 4weeks. I'll keep my fingers crossed. The last 2 were triggered by...sort of spicy vegetable soup and SOUR PATCH KIDS (candy). I love sour patch kids. That has really been the only thing that I have craved while pregnant and now I can't eat them. Anyways, when I have an episode I'll get an instillation (which I don't even know if they really work for me) and usually take a pain pill. Oh and about urinating after s_x...ha...my husband wishes..lol!!!!
