Can anyone please thoroughly explain what intestinal discomfort really feels like? Also what is the difference between intestinal discomfort and early contractions? I can't call my OB because my original OB joined another practice and the one I'm with right now only allows mothers to call on the weekend if they're in labor. Please help!

Let me specify, I have pain in my ribcage area and my mother who is a labor/delivery nurse said the way I described it makes it sound like intestinal discomfort. Also I have been having very painful pains in my lower abdomen accompanyied by tightening in my lower back and the ribcage area. Every time this comes around I can't help but double over. I a__sumed these were contractions and I have tried timing them but they'll stop eventually. I am 38 months along and I have no idea what to expect and what everything feels like as this is my first baby.

if your mother is a nurse, i would listen to her, but initially i would say that it could be braxton hicks..... the only way to be sure is to call you doctor and tell him you think your going in labor, ecspecially if your'e not sure, you might be dialated and about to have the baby, its better to be safe than sorry, so call your lazy or should i say c___ppy doctor and tell em that your'e worried you might be going into early labor... they for sure should take you in and let you know exactly what it is. good luck...!

I have IBS so I have alot of trouble with intestinal discomfort and your mom is right, it feels like it is more in your ribcage (up near the stomach and colon), contractions for me felt like really bad diarrhea cramps that eventually caused my whole stomach to tighten and hurt.. but it is much lower in the abdominal area.
