I'm 24 weeks pregnant with my fourth child and i've been having really bad abdominal pains. Sometimes its been that bad that I have gone to the emergency department because it feels like contractions. I have trouble standing for any length time and get numbness in the tops of my legs. Everytime they have said it is a infection and put me on antibiotics but the pain is still there. Can anyone help me and explain what could be the matter. Never had it with my three other pregnancies.

Well, I think I just answered a question of yours about a maternity belt, but I've been having those kinds of pains also, but no infections. Doctor just said it's ligaments stretching and muscles pulling, and resting is the best pain relief...does it hurt more when you're up and moving? If so, try to rest more. I too am pregnant with my 4th, and doctor said it hurts more every time. Hopefully it'll be over soon ;)

It could be round ligament pain, which isn't serious. If you are feeling contractions, though, it would be good to see a doctor (which you did). Here's a picture showing the different ligaments we have supporting our uterus. w w w.childbirthconnection.org/images/pregnancytermexternal.gif

Seems like it's not working. I just did a google image search for 'round ligament pregnancy. First picture on the list. Take care.
