Has anyone ever had sciatic nerve issues? If so, do you have any suggestions for stretches or anything to help with the pain?

I have had problems with sciatica for a while. I found that pelvic tilts done on all-fours can some times relieve the pressure. I also get my husband to give me a lower back ma__sage while I squat over some pillows. It really helps when he applies pressure to pressure points at the base of my spine (lower back) and holds it for a few seconds. When all else fails - and sometimes it does- I take a nice warm bath with a good book and try to get my mind off it.
Also, watch what shoes you're wearing, I find it worse after I wear certain shoes (not necessarily heels- I have flats that make it worse)
Good luck with it.

I've had the problem as well and sometimes it helps to (this is going to sound funny) on a racquetball or a tennis ball and try to have the muscle release. Everytime it happens I do this and most of the time it helps.

The sciatic is a nerve located all along from your lower back to your hips. It hurts due to the weight of your uterus when it compresses against the nerve. I started having that horrible pain early in pregnancy, even before I started to show, say...4 months. Got it for a few days, than disappeared. Got it again 1 month later for about 2 days and disappeared, and haven't had it again. I'm 7 months now. Because it's a matter of the position of the uterus, the best thing to do is try to reposition it by laying with your hands and knees on the floor (or bed). Make a curve with your back (like a scared cat) and slowly, go back to the straight position and then make the opposite curve (as a spoon). This easy excercise also do wonders to relieve the pressure off your lower back after being standing or sitting the whole day. Try it! you'll be amazed!

Hi Robin ,
I started my pregnancy with severe sciatica pain, I could not walk at the mall for more than half a hour before I was crippled with pain. I was so worried about how I could manage this pain the whole pregnancy but by about 4 months it went away I'm 6 months now and I have not had the pain since??(I better knock on wood) I found that heat worked for me , stretches were alright but only relieve pain a little. Hope this helps???
How far along are you??

I am 33 wks. I had sciatica before I was even pregnant and it is worse in the winter. I guess I either need to just deal with it or go see a physical therapist. I have tried some stretches which gives me temporary releif. How far along are you sephner?
