Hi girls,
I'm 21 weeks pregnant and for the last 4 days have been suffering from hideous reflux. Even drinking water slowly aggrivates it. I've been taking special preggy antacids, drunk milk slowly, tried soda water, avoided acidic food, slept of a pile of pillows but nothing seems to relieve it. It is making eating a painful chore and means i have a lot of trouble sleeping. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried Prilosec OTC?

jgandy, did your dr. say that you could use Prilosec OTC? I took it upon myself to start taking it three days ago, and it has done wonders, but I saw that it is Category C. I phoned my dr. and am waiting for her to get back to me, but I'm afraid she'll tell me to stop taking it, and it's the only think that has worked!

Sorry to hear you girls are going through this, too. I've been suffering with acid reflux since the beginning of my pregnancy and it's miserable!! My Dr. OK'd Gaviscon and that has been the only thing that has helped me. (That and what my husband refers to as the "pillow fort" on our bed). I usually take 2 Gaviscon with a few sips of water right when I lay down, and if I wake up feeling any reflux coming on, I'll take 2 more w/ some water. Different remedies work for different people.. but maybe this will help.

I don't know what Prilosec is. Maybe we don't have it here in Aust. I finally found this great product called tums which is specifically for preggy women. And I've started taking two everytime I eat. thank you all for your advice.
I also have a pillow fort but whenever I lay on it my little man thinks its time to kick and squirm, where as he seems to have figured out laying down means do not disturb

My doctor said it was ok to take it. It is the only thing that has helped. I had such horrible acid reflux with my first pregnancy that I did damage to my esophagus. At that time, I only took Zantac and tums, so Prilosec has been a god send!

Well, here's the update. My dr. said I could not take Prilosec because it is a Category 3 drug. She prescribed Prevacid to me, I'll be picking that up tonight. Hopefully it works as well as the Prilosec did - I felt like a new person on that - some of the morning sickness even went away!
