It's probably that the baby is pressing on a nerve. At least it's not an area like your hand, where you would be likely to burn or cut yourself and not feel it. Maybe you should ask your doctor about the numbness. I have a large numb patch on my stomach, but it's from a previous c-section.

I have the same feeling that you are describing still after six months of having my baby. It is actually numb around the upper rib area. I remember last year at this time I was experiencing a lot of pain in my right ribs. It lasted for months, but the numbness over the area never went away. Since I used to be quite small and thin around the rib area, I am wondering if my muscles/ligaments and surrounding nerves stretched so much that I have some nerve damage in that area. I asked my doctor if she ever heard of something like this, and she really did not seem to be that helpful. Do you still have this numbness after having your baby? Please let me know as I am having a hard time finding info on this.

I am 37 weeks pregnant and about 2 weeks ago noticed that a 8 inch round patch of skin right on the front of my belly has gone numb. I asked the nurse about it and she said she has never heard of it but still refered me to a OB specialist. I have that appointment in 3 days so if I get any answers to this strange pregnancy issue I will post it right away.
