Yeah-i am also glad that this blog is here. I have been hearing clicking sounds inside my womb for a few weeks on and off-was thinking i may be giving birth to a dolphin! To the amus____nt of my husband-who thinks i'm making it up! I knew if i brought it up with my docotor shewould just shrug it off-i tend to find doctors generally inept and untalkative-as opposed to the midwives who are always fantastic and fullof advice and information. I am guessing that the clicking is just air bubbles or something-I am 31 weeks gone and the baby keeps on fidgeting regardless!

I've heard a sound from the upper right part of my womb since the 34th week of pregnancy. I've heard it about 12 times. It's a loud, abrupt "click"...high pitched, like a dolphin noise or flicking your tongue, rather than the muffled sound of a joint popping. It seems to only occur when the baby moves. My OB said it was definitely not coming from the baby; she thought it was from movement of the amniotic fluid.....very strange.

Tessia I totally agree. My dd done that from about 24 weeks on until delivery. And after she was born when we changed her clothes or stretched, it was the same "clicking" noise.

I have to first say I am so glad that I found this forum! I am at 32 weeks now and have been hearing the "clicking" since about 27 weeks. The best way I can describe it has been like someone with long fingernails clicking them together. At first I thought I was hearing things, but first my husband, then many people around me began hearing the noise too. When I asked my doctor, I was having an ultrasound and he said he'd never heard of such a thing. I asked him to look at her bones for potential problems (thinking he might see something abnormal) and he said other than her being quite large for her date, she was perfectly fine. I don't think it's her joints clicking, as you'd think the amniotic fluid would at least muffle the sound a little bit. But I could be wrong?! I have absolutely no feeling when the clicking happens - it is just noise (other than the baby kicking or moving) and I'm not moving at all. My clicking is definitely loud enough for others to hear and clear as day. Like other moms, mine seems to come from the same general area and always when she's moving around. Since it seems that all moms who've had this weird and unexplainable noise have had healthy happy babies, I guess it's just first-time-mom jitters. Thanks everyone for their input, it feels good I'm not alone!

Im 33 weeks pregnant and ive been hearing the same 'popping' noise for about a month now. i was relieved/surprised to hear that other women were experiencing the same thing. Im going to ask my doctor about it but after reading some responses i think it will remain a mystery. i dont like the sound and i get nervous everytime i hear it but as long as the baby is okay i can put up with it.

I am 31 weeks pregnant and have heard the same noise. It is only when the baby is moving and I am perfectly still. The doctor said that other women have reported the same and not to worry.

Yes. I am 32 weeks (tomorrow) and I have heard it for about one month. It was only when I was perfectly still and the baby was moving a lot. I was very concerned at first since none of my friends or family members have ever heard of this. After seeing all of your threads and talking to my doctor, I am no longer concerned. Thank you very much. I wonder if we can figure out what we all have in common. Could it be that we are all having boys or that we are all on the same prenatal? I take Omega 3 DHA. It is so rare that I am sure there is a connection of some type.

Im almost 36 weeks with my 3rd child. I just started hearing the "cracking" sound a little more then a week ago. It scared me becasue it was so distint in sound and where it came from (lower half of my belly). I thought maybe my baby cracked a joint but then I started thinking maybe he broke something but that wasnt too logic considering I was sitting still, as is the case everytime, and he moved around like a mad man. This has by far been my most odd pregnancy and thats why I have been concerned because I have had extremely high stress to say the least. This baby seems a lot more active and possibly larger then the other two, and I wonder if it has anything to do with it. I start my weekly check ups tomorrow but I dont know if its worth mentioning to my OBGYN as well because the last time I told her I was having incredible pubic area pain in my 2nd month, she told me I was just old this time around (Im 27!). Come to find out it was What is Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD)--another little known complication of pregnancy (not "just me")! I personaly wouldnt sweat the clicking noise if its not causing angxiety and get the babies joints checked after birth.

Well, Im back and my doctor said it was impossible that it was the baby (impossible?). She just kinda laughed and said at this point, the baby doing have much room and you are most likely hearing your own bones and she also mentioned gas too. Im still convinced its the baby since this is the first time this has happened in three pregnancies. Today I heard it while I was stopped at a light. The baby moved one good kick and "crack." I think an OBGYN needs to actually here/feel it to speak on it. Maybe we will come across one soon! Good luck everyone!

I am 34 weeks and I have heard this clicking noise as well for the past month or so. I used to only hear it maybe 2-3 times a week, but now she's running out of room it's everyday. It's always in the area near my belly b___ton, but doesn't sound like joint popping to me..... sounds more like when water/liquid is slapped. I just figured it's amniotic fluid getting squished when baby moves very quickly. Good luck to you all with your births/babies!

One thing it definately is not is amniotic fluid slaping because there are no air pockets in the womb to make that possible. But I just had my baby a week early and every day several times a day I hear his shoulder clicking. I asked the pediatricial abou it and he said he can feel the ligaments and that its most likely the sound of them moving because the babies bones are too imature to house the fluid that "pops" when you stretch a joint. I think this would have to be the winner because I never heard the sound in or out of the womb with my other two children and its too much of a coinsidence.

yes there are air pockets b/c toward the end, the amniotic fluid decreases in the womb!

When I was pregnant with my youngest I noticed a "clicking and pop" sound when he would move inside of me..well, come to find out with me it was his knees everytime he would move they would make that "clicking" sound. He is your "normal" healthy little boy now but, that was what it was with me. The doctors said he just had very loose joints and went to physical therapy for the first year and a half of his life. They had never seen it before...Anyways Hope everything is well :)

Karalyn, Im not trying to be rude but do some research--there are NO air pockets in the womb. The amniotic fluid apears to be less becaue the baby is larger and instead of floating around in the fluid, there are actually "pockets" of fluid around the baby. Also, the baby drinks the amiotic fluid as well as the body absorbs it. I know this for a fact becaeu my first child had gastroschis and I actually had to get fluid injected into my uterus because her bowls kept absorbing it up. And besides, how would air pockets cause a decrease in fluid? Are you sugesting its evaporating? If the fluid is leaking, you have a rubtured sack.
