I may be pregnant and I am basically a healthy person (must quit smoking a.s.a.p.). However, how bad is it that I haven't taken any sort of prenatal vitamins, etc.?

Women have been getting pregnant before the advent of vitamins but i would suggest you do start taking folic acid - and of course talk to your doctor

The prenatal vitamins are not just for your baby, but also for you. It is very important to take them. Yes women have been having children before they even made up these vitamins, but look at how many complications they had back then.
Regardless if you take them or not, your baby is going to absorb them from your blood stream, so the vitamins that you take, help replemish the vitamins and calcium that your baby absorbs. It is often vital for some women to take them, because they don't or can't eat a healthy diet all the time due to working or being on the go all the time. I advise that you take them so that your baby will get the vitamins you dont eat, and so that you will be strong and not to weak to deliver. I a__sume that you are healthy, but sometimes its quite impossible to eat from every food group and ignore your cravings.
There are other ways to get vitamins, like vitamin shakes, childrens vitamins that have a better fruity flavor, just talk with your doctor about the options because you have other options.
Goodluck, and Good health!
