Marijuana And Pregnancy

I am 22 wks and every now and then I will smoke but I cut down a lot. I really do not want my unborn child feeling what I am feeling when I am high. Its a good feeling sometime but I like to feel him move every now and then and when I do it he doesn't move for days... Smoking a bowl or joint for us is like smoking an eighth for him/her *baby* or so I heard but I was told that it doesn't hurt the baby but also think about when the baby starts school. Is he/she going to have problems in that area? Smoking pot takes away white blood cells. They say you can read to gain them back but the baby can't read til around 8 years old. But I wouldn't make it an everyday thing. I smoke like 1 time every two weeks if that. Just my opinion.

I smoked a tiny amount in the first trimester, it was recommended by my midwife AND doctor. I have to say to the woman who said she would rather puke all day and night than expose her baby to weed, be realistic! You obviously haven't experienced extreme morning sickness that can endanger your babies health, sometimes causing miscarriage through malnutrition. I am not condoning sitting around getting high all day, that would be bad for baby simply because of the amount of smoke, but you people really should put yourself in someone elses shoes before getting all high and mighty about it. I am sure that there is something that every woman does when pregnant that someone else will disagree with. Until you are perfect yourself, quit ha__sling other people when you don't know their full circ_mstances.

How is it that there are warnings every where about tobacco smoke in pregnancy and the proven effects it has on the babe.... there are warnings about alcohol and the effects it has on the babe all of which are nasty but hugely man made addictive substances... BUT there is NO scientific evidence that smoking weed during pregnany causes any harm... if there was when people put in a google search wouldn't the results have been better than this chat site? It is all hear say... I have 2 children myself, 1 is ADHD and my pregnancy was clean.. my 2cd I smoked weed and he is fine!!! It is personal preferance Crystal was asking if anyone knew of side affects I don't think that slamming her for smoking is of any use is it!

If you are found Positive tox for marijuana, a report will be made to Child Protective Services. If you want DSS to come and investigate you, keep on smoking.

I smoked throughout my entire pregnancy with my daughter and she was and still is fine. She was not a low birth weight infact she was larger than anyone expected. She has no learning disabilities infact she's somewhat ahead of where 3 year olds are expected to be. I also know personally at leat a dozend women who also smoked and their children range from 2-12 and not a one of them has had problems. However you should know that some states require testing of the child at birth and this could lead to dealing with child protective services. Not a fun time let me tell you. I'm by no means saying it's ok but I personally have yet to see any of the effects in children that they claim will happen.

I can't believe that an obviously scared women asks for help to find out if her pot smoking has harmed her baby and all people can do is start arguing about the "unsubstantiated" effects of smoking pot on a baby. First of all anyone that knows anything about looking at research shows that there are many things to take into account when reading research, alot of the research that is out there is unfounded or unreliable due to the sample pool or the number of people in the sample pool itself. It saddens me that the mom that wrote in had to read alot of the arguments that were posted. If you want my advice, if your worried about it quit, if your not then continue to get high. GET OFF YOUR COMPUTER and just be happy your pregnant!

WHO GIVES A STUFF IF IT HELPS WITH MORNING SICKNESS???? i would rather puke my guts out and have a healthy baby than put my babys future at risk!!!!! SELFISH PEOPLE. you cant evan give up your body for 9 months... geez these sort of people really annoy me!! sorry..

For one thing peeps, you all seem so keen to jump all over Marijuana usage. It's funny how we see so many women smoking cigarettes regularily during their pregnancies. Cigarettes contain thousands of more harmful chemicals than marijauna, and since marijuana is smoked less frequently than cigarettes the effects are less. Marijuana is a well known drug, such as alcohol and cigarettes are well knows drugs...caffeen is another well know drug very harmful to the fetus (Causing decreased birth weight, smaller head size, breathing problems, sleeplessness, irritability, jitters, poor calcium metabolism, IUGR, mental retardation, microcephaly, and various major malformations). Don't you think if Marijuana was so harmful to the fetus that there would be more public awareness on the subject?? It's been around long enough for ppl to learn the side effects...think og half our parents who lived through the 60's. Advertisments like those saying "Don't smoke while pregnant" "Don't drink while pregnant" Why do we not see "Do not smoke marijuana while pregnant??" I mean I think Tobacco is the real killer here...

I don't think smoking anything is right during pregnancy cigarettes or pot!!! There is a helpless tiny little person growing inside your body if you can't stop for 9 months to give your baby the best chance for healthy life you are selfish and shouldn't have children! Yes smoking anything can cause harm to your baby! What is the matter with you people. Do what you want to yourselves but don't hurt a baby!

julia - May 24

yes. i got pregnant and had a miscarriage due to smoking marijuana. i would stop smoking for now just to be safe.

First I want to say that I am 38 weeks pregnant and due in 2 weeks. I'm not sure why some women find it so very hard to give up their BAD habits while they are pregnant, but I can say that you will regret it. I was a big partier until I found out I was pregnant and I quit as soon as I found out I was responsible for another life. However, around my fourth month I had a down and out with my BF and myself and got drunk a few times, and to this day I can not forgive myself. I worry and pray every day that my precious little girl will be healthy and safe. Our babies deserve all the best and putting them at unnecessary risk for any problems is very selfish. Let's just hope that they do come out fine because I don't know about you, but if anything is wrong with my child I hope she will forgive me because I will never forgive myself.

Just to let you know, I am a child protective investigator. People who test positive or their babies test positive for drugs at birth run the risk of losing their children. Or at the very least having court ordered services put in the home. Believe me its not something you really want to have happen. I have to go interview mother's in the hospital after they have given birth. Its awful to tell them that their baby wont be going home with them.

I used marijuana with my first pregnacy because I could not gain any weight and had a hard time keeping food down. My child was a healthy 8.5 lb. baby and 21.5 inches long. There is no conclusive evidence in harming the baby, i was just at a sight and it said there was no conclussive evidence that the most they saw was low birth weight and shorter lengths in babies but it was diffrent from study to study nothing was conclussive. I am also seven months pregnate and i still smoke and I am carring a healthy child. I believe that smoking either being right or wrong veries from person to person, do what you think is right, based on your beliefs. Personally I stopped as of yestersday so i have time to clean my system and my childs by birth.

I would think that "don't smoke" would cover pot too. It's not rocket science to me. There isn't more public awareness about the ill affects of smoking pot whilst pregnant because IT'S ILLEGAL. If they figure it's not good for you when you're not pregnant it sure as hell isn't good for you when you are. And btw Megz, it grosses me out seeing a pregnant woman smoking. When I was pregnant I stopped drinking alcohol at the first inkling, no caffeine, no aspartame, and I wouldn't even stand near someone who was smoking. Why would I want to put my baby at even the slightest risk? All of that c___p can wait until I'm finished b___stfeeding.
