Doctors measure the duration of pregnancy based on the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP). This can be confusing, because most women actually concieve a couple of weeks (give or take five days or so) after this date. But, it is a useful way to keep track of a pregnancy. Anyway, to know how many weeks pregnant you are, simply count back to the first day of your last period. If it was 28 days ago, you're four weeks pregnant. If it was 35 days ago, you're five weeks, etc.
