Do any of you use cloth diapers? I just realized there is a cloth diaper service in my area, and it is comparable to the price of disposables. Just wondering how people think they work in comparison to disposables. Thanks for any input or wisdom you can impart! :)

I use them. I love them. I wash my own, it's much cheaper than the service in my area. I've seen the last of diaper rash since I switched. What a wonderful end to an awful battle. I never thought I could be so excited about something like cloth diapers! It sounds crazy, but it has solved such a problem I'm nuts about them. As a secondary benefit I save money too.

thanks for the info donna.. do you notice they leak very often? And do you use special covers for them? I'm just not very coordinated either, I'm worried that if I get the cloth diapers I won't know what to do with them (i.e. how to put them on my baby!!). But the service is pretty good, we don't have to rinse them or anything - just put them in a deotorized bag and they collect and clean them. The price here is just a bit more than disposables, but then we have to pay for special trash bags in our area... so it really all evens out.

Personally, I can't stand them...but everyones opinions differ. The hospital I was in used them and they were gross. They leaked so bad...and Tasia would scream her head off everytime she peed because it felt so nasty for her. She never even cries when she pees in the disposables cause they absorb it so well. Also, I've known lots of people that had problems with diaper rashes with them...but then again lots of people have diaper rash problems with any diapers, so I guess that's not saying much. However, if you are going to try out cloth diapers than that service would be good because I read that washing your own cloth diapers isn't very good for the baby because you can't sanatize them as well as a cloth diaper service can.

I use cloth diapers and I love them too! My son hardly ever get a rash! I still have 1/3 left of the 1.75oz tube of diaper ointment I bought before he was born!! I use flat diapers which I wash and fold myself 3-4 times a week. I use Kushies covers they are about $6cdn each. I don't put them in the dryer. It ruins them. I don't have a problem with leaks. I'm sure your diaper service has great instructions for moms. If you have any more questions just ask!

I guess having that much ointment left doesn't mean much if you don't know how old my son is! LOL! He's 5 months today!

thanks for the info everyone. I think I'm just going to try it out and see how they work for us. I also have a 2 year old son and am debating whether I should try them with him, or just keep him in disposables at this point. Potty training is right around the corner for him... but, again, thanks for all the info!

I also use cloth. They don't leak at all. Never had a rash. I think it's because they breathe. Of course there are no chemicals and they are soft. I think that they also let you know the right time to change since they don't have the absorbing chemicals. You can't just put it off for a while. Don't worry, they don't take any more skill to put on than paper diapers. I wash my own too. I also feel good about not adding diapers to the landfill.

Well, I was considering using cloth diapers bc I was thinking that it might be better for my son. Why better, I don't know bc he has never had a diaper rash. He is 3 1/2 mos. I don't even use diaper cream on him. Is a ha__sle to just wash them yourselves or do you have to have a professional wash them.
