Getting Rid Of The Pacifier

My daughter is not quite 3 months old, and loves her pacifier...we give it to her if she gets hungry and I can't feed her right away (like if we're in the car) and also when it's bedtime. I don't have a problem with her having the paci right now, but my mom just told me a horror story about my 2 year old nephew refusing to take a nap because he couldn't find his paci. So, when I do decide to get rid of the paci (I'm thinking around the same time she starts to crawl) how do I do it?

Well I haven't taken it away from my 7 month old yet she only has it at bed time but lately she takes it then spits it out in a few minutes so I'm thinking I'll try soon.

I got my daughter to throw hers away just after she was a year old. I waited until she was done with the bottle, and used only her sippy cup. I didn't want to traumatize her too much! She threw her "sucky", in the garbage herself. The first night or two without it, I just had to let her cry in her bed. (because she only used it at bedtime) She eventually fell asleep on her own. She was so used to waking up during the night looking for the pacifier, but once she realized it was gone, she slept really good. You can try to take it away anytime. I think it doesn't matter how old they are, it will still be difficult for them for a couple of days.

my son gave up his pacifier when he was 6 months old because he had a terrible flu and couldnt breath with it. when he got better he had forgotten all about it.
