Not to mention... my Dh and I have started RESP's for the kids, and I would rather my money spent on smoking, go to my childrens education.

I think you got a good incentive there.I am still smoking 2 cigarettes a day.One in the morning and one in the evening. And really that is "all" I need.

I wish I only smoked 2 a day! I smoke about 1/2 a pack, on a bad day. Gross, I know! Nobody is allowed to smoke in our house, so I too stand like an idiot outside! Which insentive are you talking about? The RESP's or the b___bs?!!!!! lol!

Shelly - November 18

Probably bothLOL!!! I do not let anybody smoke in my house either.I want Jesse to grow up in a "smokefree" environment. But I don't like to get on people who smoke,I think that is so annoying. The worst are people who used to smoke, they really think they have every right to tell you what to do.

Shelly, I agree...my husband quit one week ago and he is being the biggest a__s about it...muttering about willpower every time I go outside for a smoke, talking about how much money he's saving by not smoking, how at least he'll be around to see the kids grow up...arrgh! One thing about people who have quit, they're just one smoke away from being addicted again.

I remember about 3 years ago I was sitting outside my store with a friend having a cigarrette. This guy (older) comes to us and says: "do you know smoking is bad for your health?" I looked at him totally shocked and put my cigarette out on the floor and said OMG I had NO idea,I better quit smoking right now!!!!! That guy looked so shocked,I asked him, wasn't this what you where wanting??? Geez will you just let people live their lives!! I "quit" during pregnancy b/c I wanted too, nobody has to tell me what to do.And I will never become one of those ex-smokers.

Shelly - November 18

Oops I wasn't done.I was meaning I will never become one of those ex-smokers that really feel as their duty in life to convert smokers into ex-smokers.

Do you live in a cold climate? That did it for us. My husband and I quit last January right before I found out I was pregnant. We only smoked outdoors anyway and live in Ohio. Once it got cold it was easy to quit. I had an uncle went through hypnosis? I don't know if that would work but you could try. Also try to find a support group that could help you.

Since Im not a smoker Im not sure if this will work for everyone but a friend of mine tried it and kicked the habit. Rather then use the money to buy cigarettes, she would put the 5$ in an envelope and by the end of the month, she had over $100 to take her kids out and buy them some neat stuff. She says she conditioned herself to realize that the money was so much better spent on her children than cigarettes and not only were they having fun and getting neat toys, they are going to have their mommy around for many more years!

I am a former smoker but unlike you ladies I never *quit* smoking. I just...stopped. I had a sore throat and when I realized that I hadn't had a smoke for 4 days I decided not to light up anymore. I was surprised as I had been smoking a pack a day. That was almost 15 years ago. I am so thankful that I never had the hard time you ladies are having. Maybe this story will help some of you; Kerrie and I have been best friends since we were 3, we're almost 35 now. As such I also became very close to her family and her to mine. Her parents were heavy smokers, her mother managed to quit but her lovely father was never able to. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in August /05 and we buried him on October 28/05. Kerrie has a four year old son and is currently six months pregnant. Her baby will never know what a wonderful grandfather she had and her son will miss him forever. He was only 60. Smoking is a choice, it really is. You just have to be stronger. Good luck. (P.S. I was told if you drink a gla__s of water and wait 15 minutes the craving will pa__s - even if it doesn't you'll have great skin...)
