Gas drops was my savior during the gas times. Put some in his formula and the drops should help the gas pa__s. Gas drops can be bought at your local drug store....You could also try giving him a baby ma__sage. Tubbing his tummy and moving his leg in a bicycle motion. That will also help the gas pa__s. Talk to your doctor. he should be able to give you some advice. Take care

Jennifer..I have a 4 week old that is also very ga__sy. I am BF and have found that I need to avoid ga__sy foods..raw vegetables, salads, chocolate, ect. I was also told some babies are ga__sy due to a protein allergy found in dairy products that can cause gas. My peditrician tested my babies poop and he doesn't have this, so I can eat dairy. Its worth a try if you want to BF to try and avoid these foods. Talk to your doctor, they can also help. The dr told me that some babies are just ga__sy because their digestive tracks aren't fully developed and this should go away by 3-6 months. So could luck. My little guy is a screamer and bicycle peddler as well.

My daughter would cry after I fed her ALL the time, and I knew it was wind, but I wasn't keen on giving her any drops of any kind.Anyway, I gave her some gripe water one day which was supposed to be all natural, but it didn't do much. Then an old family friend who also happens to be a retired midwife, recommended Infacol drops. They go right into the bottle, or her mouth before b___st feeding, and taste like vanilla. They have worked wonderfully. She now just does a huge burp, and gets on with playing.

Thanks all but I am no longer b___st feeding. I am going to try the gas drops. We see doc tomorrow so I hope it helps. What is the Gripe water and where can I get it? Can I get it at walmart? And will it help with ga__siness? Thanks ALL for your HELP!

jennifer, that's too bad that you gave up b/f because of this. believe me, i thought about it too b/c you hate to see your baby in so much pain. i read and read that more than half of babies are ga__sy no matter what we do. i ordered gripe water online (babycenter.com), but amazon also has it. If you have a natural store near you, they would probably have it. I tried mylicon and it does seem to help, but I might try the other ones mentioned if the gripe water doesn't work. good luck :)

to jennifer, your baby son sounds just like mine. My son is 3 weeks old and has a lot of gas. He looks like he is in so much pain. I am pumping milk and feeding it through a bottle. I have bought the dr. browns bottles which are suppose to be good for ga__sy spitty babies. But has not really helped at all. What kind of bottle are you using and did switching to formula help? what formula are you using?

OK well I got some gas Drops and they seem to Be working good. I use The evenflo bottles that are curved. I know he takes in a ton of air. But I also know a lot of his pain is from him being constipated. I found that out today. I am using Karo dark syrup to ease the constipation so I hope it works,. And at night I am going to give him Oatmel to see if that will help with his hunger problems He is always hungry. well Thanks all for the advice. Let's hope and see if this all works...

what is karo dark syrup and where do you get it... I thought my son was constipated but the doctor said no, because at this age they cant be constipated because there stool is not hard yet. Have you asked the doctor about the cereal, if it is too early to give to a 3 week old or if it OK? My son has a bowel movement about twice a day but he strains and looks like he is in so much pain. So I was thinking it was the gas that was causing so much pain.

+Well I gave my Daughter cereal when she was that Age and she Started doing a lot better. Don't always listen to the doc's hun. Sometimes they don't even know what they are doing. They are just doing what they were taught to do. Karo Syrup is Found in the Syrup isle. Like with Pancake syrup. Put 1/2 teaspoon with 8 ounces of water then feed to them suppose to make their stools looser. Try that and let me know hun!

my dr. told me to do karo syrup when my daughter was younger and I mentioned it to a few people and they told me it was really bad for anyone, esp. babies. I never did research on it, but my gut does tell me that corn syrup isn't good for babies....

Michelle - August 18

I did the karo syrup with my daughter and she ended up getting really bad gas and food posioning from it. We had to take her to the emergency room. This happened when she was six weeks old. Needless to say, we never used it again. I am not dogging it, but I will never use that system again. If my daughter is constipated I put in a suppository to help her. She has had problems with constipation since she was born.

thank you.. i didn't know that! will stop hun.. thanks all

I don't think giving a 3 week old cereal will help, it would probably make it worse. Gripe water usually works well, i would make sure to get the alcohol free stuff though (the other kind can be as much as 90% alcohol). Oval drops worked really well. If you find that you are shaking or stirring the bottle right before you feed the baby, maybe let it sit for a few minutes first to let all the air rise to the top (maybe make a whole jug of formula at a time, or prefill all the bottles..) Maybe try a different formula if none of this works.. enfamil A+ is good.. i've heard nestle good start is a good one too. OH and the corn or karo syrup is not good for babies. If your baby is very very constipated (hasn't had a BM in atleast 7-9 days) then a teaspoon of brown sugar in four ounces of formula or b___st milk once a day for two days was recommended to me by my doctor.

kEEKEE - August 18

No cereal!!! You would ready have a screaming baby. Cereal isn't needed/used until the 4-6 month. Drops are life savers. Believe me!!! I used them with both of my boys. Life was so much easier after putting some gas drops in the formula.

monica - August 18

whats your opinion on similac formula?

JenniferI - August 18

Similac is pretty Good my son doesn't have a problem with it. He doesn't spit any up really. My daughter didn't get along with similac back before it became advanced.I changed her to isomil which i think I might try with him come soon cause of his stomach.. Time will tell.. You have to decide which is best for your baby. If he is spitting up a TON then try switching. And by the way the Doc Told me to use the Karo. I forgot about that.
