I think Caleb is sick. He had not been fussy at all during the day and was his usualy self. But he has not wanted to eat at all. Everytime I feed him He turns his head to the left and crys really hard. It was not easy getting him to go to sleep tonight he was really fussy. tomorrow I have a dr. appointment but I was curious to hear something before tomorrow.

If he is not wanting to eat he could have an ear infection, because it hurts to suck and lay down. Then again, it could be nothing and he just isnt that hungry, or something more interesting is going on in the room.

Sorry to hear that monica. Have you checked his temp? It's hard to say what's wrong (if anything). Anna acted a little strange just before her four month mark. She would only take b___stmilk and wanted to be held all the time. She was OK a couple of days later. It could be something like an ear infection like Stephanie said, but also gastrointestinal disturbances or teething or nothing physiological. In any case if he's not fussy I don't think it's anything serious but it's good you'll check.

Lucas did that a few weeks ago, and I had to sort of convince him to eat. It wasn't at every bottle but it did go on for a week or two. Then all of a sudden he is taking every bottle without a fuss. Hopefully it is just a phase he is going through. But I wouldn't rule out the possibility of an ear infection, so it's better to check. These kids do a number on us getting us all worried don't they?

Nadya didn't feed much when she came down with a cold. She just wanted to sleep most of the time, and when she was awake, she was miserable, and stopped smiling for a few days. She didn't have a fever though. After a couple of days, she had a day when she was making up for it, by feeding all day, then when back to sleeping and not eating again for a few days. This lasted for about 10 days, but now she's her normal self. Hope Caleb is better soon. It's so distressing when they're ill, isn't it? I was going out of my mind with worry.

he will be 4 months on the 26 of this month,. He has a doctors appt. today at 12 california time. He woke up in a good mood. But drank only 2 oz. last night I was able to get him to drink 7 oz...seems that when he is half asleep he eats. Something tells me that his reflux has gotten worse, he has a cough and a hoarse voice. Arent these signs of reflux? and reflux peeks at 2-4 months (rachael is that correct)

Yeah, doc said 3 and 4 months will be the worst for the reflux and it should actually go away after that.

Rachel that makes sense. Our daughter's reflux has improved dramatically in the past week or so.... almost gone. We also burp her more carefully.

Monica, I just spoke to our ped about something else and reflux. Aparently the muscle that controls the food escaping from the stomach to the esophagus (acts like a valve) is underdeveloped in babies, and since they eat more in the 2-4 mo period you'll see more of the food coming back up. If formula fed, the manufacturers make a thicker variety to help in that sensitive age if there are weight gain problems. After 4 months the valve function improves and it naturally goes away.

Only enfamil makes a formula that is thicker like rice cereal, but my son is allergic, so he is on alimentum, and needs rice cereal in his bottles. I believe monica does that too. Wa Anna's reflux ever that bad, or was it controlled with keeping her head elevated, etc? That was also exactly how it was explained to me by my doc.

My little chunkeroo weighs 16 lbs 5oz so luckily weight gain has never been an issue. He is competing with the Thanksgiving turkley I always tell him! LOL!

It would get bad if we put her on the over the shoulder burp position after b___stfeeding. Then the teething came and she accidentally induced vomiting by sticking her fingers down her throat. The solution was to hold her straight up (even tilting back a little) for at least 15 minutes while Lisa was sitting. Hard to explain but the baby sat on our thigh while we supported her back. She'd then burp with little or no reflux. Also giving a bit of formula after the b___stfeeding session helped too.

That makes sense to me. Lucas has not induced vomiting yet, but he has made himself gag a lot lately with fingers. He has not had a really bad spit up or vomit for about a month. I think the zantac does him a world of wonders. I myself have acid reflux and prilosec keeps mine under control. These poor kids, luckily they won't remember when they grow up. I hate it when my little man is in any pain.
