you might want to check with your doc first because the lactose in the reg. formulas could give your baby gas.

after checking with your doc I would alternate bottles of the same brand youve feen using for about a week (gradually decreasing the # of soy bottles) then your baby should be ok with just the regular formula

I went with soy because my son refused to eat my b___stmilk, then also regular formula for a few days. Doc said possible intolorance, and to try soy. It worked very well. He drank the soy with no spitting up at all!! I was so happy, and so was he, but now I want to try regular formula again because i don't want him to be lactose intolerant..I am scared to switch in case he gets sick from it again. He was 3 mos. when I switched and now he is 6.

Your son won't be lactose intolerant just because you keep him on soy formula. True lactose intolerance is genetic... the person lacks an enzyme which cleaves (separates) the two sugar molecules which makes up lactose. Most babies are lactose intolerant (not true lactose intolerance) until they are about 2 or 3. This means that it causes a bit of gas or diarrhea, but it doesn't cause any real harm, other than having a fussy baby which may not eat very well. My daughter has the same problem which actually stemmed from a rotavirus infection she caught at daycare. She drinks soymilk now, but her pediatrician told me to switch her to cow's milk if I wanted to when she was around 2. Honestly, I don't think I will because the soy milk I have her on has more vitamins, more protein, and the same amount of calcium as cow's milk does. Not to mention, she drinks it better than cow's milk, even when I put chocolate syrup in it. (She is a little older, about 19 months.) My advice to you is to feed your baby the type of formula that he eats and thrives on well. Worry about the whole lactose intolerance thing when he gets older. And, always consult your pediatrician before changing your baby's diet.

Hello, thank-you for your response. I didn't feel comfortable switching to regular formula just yet because he was doing so well on the soy. I also think it is a healthy choice. I am glad to know he won't become lactose intolarant from it. thanks again!!
