I'm thinking about a travel system, but also considering just getting one of those carts for the carseat and a different stroller down the road. I'd do that if I found one with a toddler seat for a reasonable price (less than $200). My sis in law is getting one but it's $400!!! Anyone know of one? (And I don't mean a double stroller, I mean a TODDLER seat. I plan to space 3 years).
Thanks

Save your cash! We bought a sit and stand stroller where the baby sits in front and can be in a carrier or sit in seat and the toddler can sit or stand on the back. It was expensive and is the worst stroller in the world. I really thought I was on the cutting edge with this stroller but it has only been a big pain in the b___t! There is no place to put anything such as bags, etc., there is no cup holder, it is very heavy and hard to fold and the worst thing of all my son just gets in and out of it totally defeating the purpose of the stroller. I think I am already going to have to buy a different double stroller and my new son is only 5 wks. old.

My daughter outgrew her infant carseat in less than four months of age (she's 27.5 inches tall). You may want to consider that your baby may do that too. Personally in our second child I'd not base the stroller purchase on the car-seat/travel system at all

I got the travel system for what I figured would be convenience. And while it has its moments, Lucas is 3 mos and weighs 16.5 lbs, and is 24 inches. He will not be in it for more than a few more months. His carseat I mean. I don't really like the stroller on its own. I kinda wish I'd looked a little harder before I got it.

Rachael, you're probably looking at a few weeks, not months :-) I wish we had bought the convertible car seat from day one

BBK, you are probably right. Lucas grows like a weed! As convenient as it can be to not have to take him in and out of a carseat when going places, that darn thing weighs as much as he does, my body hurts carrying it around!

i'd save your money too - just get a carseat that can also serve as a toddler seat down teh road - forget the travel systems - not worth the money. then find a stroller you really like and place baby in that - make sure it reclines fully though for the newborn stage.

Oh I am looking into just getting a double jogging stroller I figure that way they will both fit and they hold more weight.

If I were you I would skip the travel system (although I really loved mine when Amaya was like 3 weeks old, then she hit 4.5 months and was outgrowing her carseat, and now at 6 1/2 months finally hit the 27 inch mark) I would look into getting a convertable carseat (we have the Britax Marathon and so far are very happy) and maybe get a really nice umbrella stroller (Maclaron sp?) and a wrap for this winter to carry your little bundle in.

i got a travel system for 199.99$ (well at my shower..lol thats what she paid) its good! my daughter was always smal so she was in it till she was 9months old. so i really enjoyed my travel system. but everyones different. cause all the infants are also different, cause some are bigger than others. my son was also small, still is. but he was born in november...so my stroller wasnt really of use. it will for this third one though, as she/he will be born in may.

Well the Graco systems have carseats that fit to 29 inches. I wanted to be able to leave the baby in it and place it in a stroller or cart.
But good point that if I don't like the stroller on it's own it's a big waste. Which is why I am considering getting the cart for the carseat and a stroller I like down the road. The carts are only like $50, and people sell them cheap used. (And it's just metal, it can't be dirty!)
Question: Do the convertable car seats come with the LATCH base and do they fit into the carts? If they don't, and I don't think they do, then I don't want that.
I definetly don't want anything big or heavy. We have an Elantra and an Accord. We don't plan on a minivan or SUV unless we have 3 kids. It amazes me that you need one for some of these strollers!

I love the idea of just getting a convertable carseat (like Britax) that is suitable from birth. BUT when I go to the grocery store or to Target what do I do with the baby? The baby will be too small to put in the front of the shopping cart for several months and I can't push a stroller AND a cart. The infant carrier car seat is the only thing that will attach to a shopping cart, right?

Belle, I am pretty sure you are right about that. Besides, if it doesn't have the base in the car, I really don't want to mess with taking the seat in and out of the car all the time. This is what my sis in law got:
Graco snugride for the infant, and she is borrowing one of those carts from her friend. Then she got the Britax for the 2nd carseat because it goes to 65 lbs. However, I think accoring to PA law she'll need a booster after that anyway. (I believe it is 80 lbs). You can get a good 2nd car seat up to 40 lbs, and then go right to the booster. Those combined are still $100 less than the Britax.

i personally wouldn't get a jogging stroller as my only stroller, jill. they (at least the ones i've seen) don;t have any storage baskets underneath. when you're out shopping, it's great to have a place for your purse and the diaper bag.
i got a shopping cart cover/protector thing - you know the ones that you put over the area where baby sits so they don't touch everything? before she could sit up on her own, i put the cover in the cart, placed a blanket inside for extra padding, and i laid her in the seat. she slept the whole time anyway. so if you don't want to get the infant carseat, the cart protector thing is another option.

If you are considering just getting a convertable carseat, they do not have the base that stays in the car so you can not just remove the carseat (we have the Britax and they are pretty heavy so you wouldnt want to just carry that around everywhere, and they are HUGE) I would either get an infant carrier and then spend a little more on a convertable carseat (Walmart sells one that goes to 100lbs, it turns into a booster seat, but it didnt work for our needs and cars) I still like my stroller that came with my travel system, Amaya will be able to use it for a few more years, and then after that we will either get an umbrella stroller or just let her walk everywhere. Another option is, get the convertable seat and get a wrap or sling to carry the baby in.

Definetly no joggers... won't fit in my car! I guess I definetly won't get a convertable seat too, at least not for an infant. I want the kind I can carry them in. I can't do the sling. My sis in law loves it. But I have back problems. So I'll mostly be putting the carrier in a shopping cart or stroller/cart.
Anyone know about the MacLaren Volo? It's $99. It says 6 months... but can you really put a 6 month old in it?

Now I found the MacLaren Triumph. It's $140 and seems to be better than the Volo since it DOES recline. I think I am going to end up with the Snugride, finding a used Kolcroft cart, and a Triumph.
