I'm not sure if this has been covered, don't have time to read all the posts. One problem with soda, even diet, is the acid. It's horrible on teeth. Please, reconsider.

Well..i have read alot on aspartame, there is always mixed answers....there (iam not sure who K. is but its not me) i didnt start the aspartame issues LOL...i give my toddler one drop of strawberry quick once a week in their milk LOL...for "treat" or ill put bananas and milk in the blender. they love it....but like i said about the soda...i just dont think its healthy for a child to have that everyday....i would be afraid of the stomach cramps. Everyone has their own opinions on this subject. And like alot of subjects in these post, some can make alot of arguments.

I think its bad that your kid gets more pop every day than milk and juice combined.

I read that diet soda actually makes you crave sugar. I love the stuff but maybe thats why I am always craving sweets. My 4 year old only drinks water and milk. Is that bad??? But I wont let him near soda.... I am addicted to the stuff and I dont want him to start this young.

Asparatame IS a poison (a neuro-toxin to be precise). Every industry sponsored study finds it A-OK whereas 92% of the independent studies found it harmful. If you like it you can rationalize and say.... well FDA approved it, it must be OK.... etc., but where there is smoke there's fire. It's interesting that "Nutrasweet" often refers to the same "shady" study but presents it as 6 different ones. Ralph G. Walton, M.D. chairman of the dept of psychiatry, in Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine did a peer-reviewed study on asparatame where he surveyed all the studies made on it. Read the short version of the study and judge for yourself: http://www.dorway.com/peerrev.html (take out any dashes) You can also see all the references.

I am overweight, and my sisters and father are also. Obviously our family is prone to excess weight. Some people won't admit it, but some weight problems are genetic. If my daughter is overweight as a child, she's more likely to be overweight as an adult. I lost 80 lbs last year before I got pregnant, and my goal is to lose 100 more, now that I've had my baby. A lot of people really look down on people with weight problems. I've been overweight my entire life and I know how mean people can be, so I'd like to help my kids avoid the rude comments I've heard throughout my life.

Jbear, some weight problems ARE genetic, and it's on both ends of the scale. I have been severely underweight my whole life. Don't let mean people on a website get you down. I'm sure you're a great mother, who does the best she can for her kids.

Jamie - October 6

Oh, yah, I just went through and reported all the mean posts, so hopefully they'll be removed in a day or two.

My oldest daughter still goes back and forth to the children's hospital from time to time and she sees a range of specialists when she visits. She is nine now but when she was younger the children's dentist told me that i could give her diet pop, not for the calories but because of the sugar it will not rot her teeth like the regular pop will

karine - October 6

I have nothing against Jbear. I just said my opinion, that for my kids i woudnt give it, i prefer giving real fruit juice, milk and water. But we all raise our kids in different ways, and people NEED to think their is other ways then your own way. And that people dont need to bash others, they can just simply say (well i would or woudnt) it dosent need to go any further than that. we are all adults here and should act like some. So much post end up bad, and it shoudnt. Jbear giving her daughter pop, isnt near as bad as what i see where i live, taking little babies out in the middle of winter, in sox, with no hats and mitaines, or toddler out with runners on instead of good winter boots, or perhaps, taking infants out straight in the sun at 30-35celcius out with no sun hat, and then people wonder why there is so many kids out in the hosptial when the winter hits. Cause they have sever cold and bronchios (speliing), Or perhaps, 7-8yrs old on the road with their bikes with no helmet and no shoes??? We should be bashing these people, YES i really dont agree with Pop, BUT, its not like Jbear is puttting her life at risk, she is doing what she thinks is best for her daughter, with the experience that she had throughout her life.

Jamie - October 6

Absolutely, Karine...there's no need for people to bash Jbear for having a different parenting technique...that's so stupid, it's like me going off on you for having your daughter wear pink just cause I don't like the color. Really really dumb.

CEM - October 6

karine, i hope you wouldn't bash me...my son knows where i stand on shoes and helmets, but he's constantly taking off without putting them on! he's really sneaky, and fast. :)
