Karine, I was actually talking about boiling the water. Hot soda? ewww! Even grosser than cold soda! lol! KeeKee, LMOA! Yes, actually I slimmed down a lot after leaving school, most of my jobs have been quite physical, and a few years back when I went to a bar in my home town I bumped into some of the "popular girls", they were just about all fat! And being super nice to me, I might add. Just months before getting pregnant, I had been working one of the most physical jobs I have ever done, and was eating really well, I got down to the smallest I have ever been. 4 weeks after becoming preg, bam! there goes the weight all back on again, oh well, it's all for a great cause. I saw myself the other day on a dvd we shot in January and said to hubby, was I really that small? He replied, I like you better how you are now. He's either very sweet or a very good liar, lol!

Krystal, the sugar is only a small part of it. The biggest threat is the phosphoric acid which eats through the teeth enamel, leaving them very vulnerable. Please don't think brushing them well afterwards takes away the risk, it actually possibly increases the risk (according to studies).

I meant "increases the damage", not "increases the risk". There is no "risk" it does happen.

So if the real problemis phosphoric acid, what about citric acid? Should we stop giving our kids stuff like orage juice since citric acid eats away at enamel too? Citric acid by the way is more detrimetal to tooth enamel than phosphoric acid. The sugar in orange juice is converted into acid, with the help of bacteria which also contributes to tooth decay. I guess now we are just left with water, but I am sure someone is concerned about toxicity of the floride found in muncipal water.

LMFAO, I am so glad my mother doesn't read this site. She gave me an hour long lecture about the dangers of fluoride about two weeks ago when I took my son into the dentist for his fluoride treatment..

There are benefits to orange juice, not with soda. Also, soda is most commonly sipped on and orange juice drank. The amount of time the acids are exposed to your teeth matter greatly. If you disagree, phone a dentist. Personally, I couldn't care less if your son or daughter has healthy teeth or rotten teeth. I just wanted to warn those who do.

We are talking about babies, they tend to drink sip however you want to desribe it from a bottle or sippy cup. I can't imagine that OJ and Soda would be drank much differently from either of those. Also you are correct about the amount of time being a factor but I don't think it applies here, because of the bottle or sippy cup issue. It is however an excellent tip for adults or people who don't use bottles and sippy cups! I hope you feel better now that some one has agreed with you.

Ah for those of you giving your babies/toddlers soda I hope that you have a lot of money saved! You will need it to fix all the dental problems you are causing your children! Even if you give them juice that will do it also....just dilute teh juice with water!!

I never had soda growing up. My son won't either. What's wrong with water?

Excess sugar consumption does NOT cause obesity. A calorie intake exceeding the amount burned off by activity does. It is really that simple. You need to look at your total diet and not just your sugars. The human body does not distinguish between "added" sugar and "natural" sugar - let me point out that there are still sugars in milk (lactose) and juice (fructose). Such elements are necessary for a healthy diet - and don't forget about the calcium and vitamin intake with these natural foods. It should be about the quality of the overall diet we give our kids that counts by sticking to natural foods and not trying to cut their diets way before they need it. Our ancestors never had this artificial rubbish! They had nice plain water too - start the habit early. The best of health to you all :-)

That does not make any sense to me. I am sorry, but what makes you think you need to be limiting her calorie intake? She is in the 95 percentile for weight.. well yes that is to be expected if she is in the 95 percentile for height as well. Underweight or overweight is determined by the difference in those numbers, not how they rate compared to other children. I don't understand how giving your child something natural and healthy like milk or water is causing your child weight problems. If you are concerned about her weight, get her more physically active and change the entire families eating habits. If there is a problem with weight in the family it probably has more to do with lifestyle rather than drinking habits. There are NO benifits to pop.. it just tastes good. The fats vitamins, minerals and sugars in milk are essential to brain developement and bone growth, water is a basic need and diluted juice is a million times better, and more nutritional than soda. The fact that you are actually limiting your childs calorie intake makes you sound more like a stuck up yuppie than seeing a three year old drinking soda looks trashy.

Some of you people on this forum crack me up. Everyone is so quick to jump up and trash someone for the decisions that they make. Man, I swear people in gla__s houses should not throw stones. If all of you Jbear trashers noticed that she said SHE had a valid reason for giving HER child diet soda. If you do not feel like her reason is valid, ok. But c'mon, calm down!!! Why does everyone have their panties in a bunch because of HER choice.
