I have an 8 day old baby that won't sleep in her bassinett or crib. We've tried swaddling her, changing positions, adding padding, etc... still she won't sleep there. She sleeps on my chest without issue. Anyone have any tips to help?? I can't sleep most nights cause I have a baby on my chest.

How long do you try her in her crib or basinette? Just wondering if you kept her in there and stayed awake with her doing something like putting your hand on her chest (that is supposed to comfort them), or just keep giving her her soother (LOL, I am probably telling you things you already know!) Good luck!!

Hi Kelly - November 23

8 days is really young, baby is very used to hearing your heartbeat and has probably not adjusted to being in this big new place. Give her some time, you two have been inseperable for months now, that bed thing is just weird to her right now. You might try one of those heartbeat bears. They are supposed to mimic the womb sound, some babies find this soothing and its enough to get them to sleep on their own.

Stop it now. Rock that ba__sinett until she falls asleep, my health nurse said even if u have to do it for an hour, exaggerated but my little one always was fine in her ba__sinett but like all babies went thru a phase of not sleepin well at a particular time. You cant have a baby sleeping on ya chest, be strong, let them cry a bit as she will and persist, do it for you. Like tanya says rock her, pat her, she should be lights out in no time, be strong with the crying too, it doesnt hurt a baby to cry a little,

Buy the book-The Baby WHisperer, it is fabulous. My son is now going to sleep on his own at 7 weeks. We can actually put him down awake and he goes to sleep on his own. This book taught me how to do this.

Sonya,hi,I have that book as well it's GREAT! My son has slept through the night since he was 8 weeks! He is now 5 months today.

I looked on Amazon and there are 2 different books. Which one is the right one? There is: Secrets of the Baby Whisperer and The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems. Which is correct? Thanks ladies!!

Sorry, I didn't realize there was more than one. The one I have is the Secrets of ....I hope this helps you. Everyday when my son falls asleep on his own my husband and I just look at eachother in amazement. We keep saying...."where was this book when our first son was born?" He is three and half and just started falling asleep on his own about 8 months ago by using the Supernanny technique.

I really appreciate all of the advice. Her not sleeping on her own is really a hardship for me and my husband. I haven't been able to sleep in the bed with him since we went into the hospital to have her. I miss my connection to him.

I know it is really hard.I had the same problem with Jesse but I kept on trying to put him in his ba__sinett.I tried tolet him fall a sleep on my chest and i have tried to put him in there when he is sleepy but still awake. It took a little, but he sleeps great in his crib now.I also boughtthe ocean wonders mobile from fisher price,it has calming sounds and it displays a lightshow on the ceiling.Jesse really likes it.

I have the same mobile but she doesn't seem to even care that it's running. I'm going tomorrow to buy the Baby Whisperer book and a mother bear to put in her crib. Hopefully it'll work. I'm also going to talk to her doc next week when I take her for her 2 week check up. Hopefully he has some ideas as well.

Shelly - November 24

Now that I thinkof it,I didn't buy that mobile until he was 8 weeks old. It's possible she will not care for it now,but defenetly later.Good luck and let us know what the doc says next week!!!

LOL - that is my bible - Secrets of the Baby Whisperer! Andrew is almost 4 months and goes to bed at 7:30 ish, and gets up at 6 or 7 (with a feed at 10pm). During the day he naps like clockwork and I really think it is because I read that book!

My baby had (has) the same problem. we were miserable for the first week, then I read here that some mommies use the car seat or swing to put their babies to sleep in. It is nice and small for them and cozy, and they are not laying down on their backs, but reclining. Also it is easier to put them in there without waking the baby up - just lower the baby into the seat and keep the hands around him for a bit longer and slowly take the hands away. It works like a charm for my little one who is now 2 and 1/2 weeks old . We are finally able to get some Zzz in between feedings. In the last 2 days we have been putting him on the crib during the day and he is learning to stay there little by little. I think this approach works better than forcing him to get used to the crib. It is amazing how fast he learns and it is alot more calmer than 1 week ago. Just give your baby a chance to get used to his new life, and feeling safe and protected and cozy is important for a newborn I think. Oh yes, when he is nicely fed we can put him on the car seat and he will fall asleep on his own now.

I'm not sure if this works because I'm not a mommy yet, but I read in one of my books that sometimes the babies won't like thier cribs because their cold, so if you put a hot water bottle down to warm up a spot for your baby they might like it better. Just thought I'd put my input in, even though I'm not a regular on this site, and I'm not familiar with Kelly K....hehe :)

Shelly to Beth - November 25

He he, I think you will fit just perfect!!! LOL

Kelly K - November 25

Well I bought a sounds machine and she slept for 2.5 hours in her crib with the ocean sounds. She didn't like the womb sounds though. I haven't been able to get to sleep again to see if it'll work a second time yet. Everyone keep your fingers crossed!!
