we gave our daughter water at 6 months. just a bit here and there because she was still nursing and getting plenty of water that way. now she's a year and a half and she gets water all day long in a sippy cup (and she LOVES it) - only orange juice with calcium in the morning with breakfast, and no milk or juices the rest of the day - most juices i think are pointless and milk - she hates it.

my doctor told me I could give my son 2 oz if needed because of his mucas when he was a month or so. Better water to clear up the mucas than medicine. Just do what you think is best for your baby and at the advise of your doctor.

i have to agree with not needed.
My physician told me never to give a baby water as it just fills up the stomach and makes them full, thus having them miss feedings or not completing the feedings at get the nutrician that a baby needs.
Breastmilk and Formula should be enough to keep a baby hydrated.
As I said before, my son did not have any juice or water until he was a year old.
