I have heard & read a little about women using hypnotherapy during childbirth & was wondering what your experiences (or those you know) were like, as it sounds like a fabulous idea. Any info would be great like when you started, was it good for pain management, & any difference you found using it compared to previous/subsequent labours (if applicable). I am currently 33wks pregnant with #3 & am hoping for another drug free natural labour, & love the idea of being able to achieve this almost pain free (or at least that was my friends experience using hypnobirthing).

Oh, I highly recommend it. I love the philosophy that it is a natural process and not a medical one. You also reinforce in your mind that its your birth and that you plan how you want it. I absolutely loved my birthing process. It was the most riveting experience. My lo didn't engage in my pelvis so I couldnt have a waterbirth like I planned. I labored at home for the first 5 hours until 6 or 7cm. (Actually I had practice labor for about a week. I welcomed the practice so that my body was could get used to it.) I went to the hospital and was distracted by all the medical c___p:( and slowed my progression. Of course they wanted to put on drugs six hours later. But I told them to let me take a shower and try some natural stimulation. Well I went from 6/7 cm to pushing in 20mins and 20mins later she was here.
It was such a moving experience I still well up with tears thinking about it. Oh this was my first and I had back labor(try ma__sage with hyponobirthing). My little girl didnt want to tuck her head until I went to the shower.

Thankyou so much for sharing your experience. Like you I love thinking of birth as a natural experience & not a medical one. I was lucky with my 2nd baby (a boy) to be able to have a completly natural water birth (8hr labour & 25mins pushing), & what made it even more special was that he was 9lb 3oz & because I trusted & listened to my body I had no tearing. I like you had bad back labour & this time around a bathing pool is not an option (it helped tremendously with the pain) so I'm hoping hypnobirthing will be beneficial.
When in your pregnancy did you start hypnobirthing? Did you do sessions with a professional or did you buy a book/cd & do it yourself?

I started late with a professional instructor due to scheduling. I would recommend ealier is better to use the CD. Four days after my last cla__s I had my lo.
I would recommend pernial ma__sages, it helps protect from tearing.
I hope you a have a wonderful birth :)

I am currently learning the process. I feel ready to have a wonderful calm birth. I have been taking the cla__ses and have read the book. I am 36 weeks. I have been working with the book CD since the summer and the rainbow relaxation CD since Nov 16th. Good Luck!
