My back hurt tremedously last night with surges of pain. Walking, sitting or standing did not relieve the pressure felt in my abdomen, and low back. The surges came and went 3 to 4 times within an hour. How do I know when I need to go in to the doctor to be check for labor? Is this false labor or the real thing?
I was told that I had no cervic left and that the next step would be dialation, but that it would happen very quickly when it did start dilating. I was told this at my last doctors visit which was 3 days ago

when the contractions are every 3-5 mins lasting for40-60secs and have been for over 1 hour you are probably in labour. if you have to ask if it's the real thing the chances are it's not.

my doc told me when in doubt call or go to the hospital.
