Can You Ask To Have Your Membranes Stripped

I am 39 weeks at my next appointment i will be 39 weeks and 4 days...can i ask my doctor to do it or do they normally do this for everyone anyway?

I just went in today. My due date has changed back and forth between 4/22 and 5/4. I asked the doctor to do it and she did (it was a second attempt, I've been dilated for three weeks, I'm up to 3 cms now with my third child). I do also have an appointment for an induction at the end of the week.

okay:) thanks....next week i schedule induction for the may 3rd if i havent had him by then...

I asked my doc about it when I was almost 40 weeks. She said she normally does it for people. However I don't think they can if you aren't dialated/effaced some already. If I were in your shoes I'd at least ask, worst that can happen is they say no! Oh, and it doesn't always work, they did mine twice before anything happened (I went 41 weeks, 2 days). Good luck!
