Can You Lose Your Mucous Plug After Being Checked

I am 36 weeks and 4 days and i am dilated to 3cm. I was in the hospital yesterday for contractions and low baby movement. The OB checked me and said that i might experience some spotting. I did that but now im losing this brown looking mucous stuff and i think its my plug.
