Cole Christopher 35 Weeks 1 Day

I began dilating at 30 weeks. I was put on bedrest and continued to dilate anyway. I had been on steroids for over a month b/c of a low platelet count so if I delivered early, then I had a leg up on the lungs being matured. So we thought...At 35 weeks 1 day, I was dilated at a 6. Doc didn't think I'd make it through the night but sent me home. He was right. I went to the hos late that afternoon and was dilated at a 7. They kept ofcourse and started pitocin. My baby was 5ibs 14oz, crying and had a 9 on his apgar. We thought he was fine until he started grunting. My baby was taken away from me within 5 min. and we got the news that he was okay. Then, half and hour later, we got the news that they were going to transfer him to a level 3 NICU. He spent the first week of his life away from his mother and living in a isolette. It was the sadest thing I've been through and I learned a lot about prayer. You never know how your baby will turn out or what will happen or what labor really is and when it will start. I didn't have any pain dilated at a 7! So, all I wanted to say is if your still pregnant try not to focus too much on getting your baby out. The longer they are in there the better. My 1st was born at 38 weeks, what a difference! Good luck to all of you!!

I completely agree with you! Both my kids were early, I almost had my second at 27 weeks but was on bedrest and pills until 36 weeks. She was born 7 days later...what a difference a few weeks makes!! Luckily I got a shot to help her lungs before that so she came out able to breath. Please listen to bekysu, every single day your baby is in, counts, stop trying to induce yourself ladies!!!

I also want to add that now that Cole is home and is healthy isn't always the case. Only 90% of babies born at 35 weeks survive. There are also a lot of babies that get lung infections that can lead to permanant damage. My son also has an increased risk of becoming deathly ill from RSV so we can't go anywhere and must be extremely careful about visitors etc...So all out there that think "oh, he's fine now no big deal" it is a big deal. Some of you may not be as lucky, although I pray that if your babies do come early they will be safe and happy!

WELL SAID, bekysu!!!! It really bugs me (and seems so selfish to me) that moms on here and everywhere are trying to have their babies weeks before their due dates, when others like yourself know better, and would have done anything you can to stop it. Just because the risks for 35+ weeks can be somewhat low, doesn't mean you'd want to put that risk on your little baby! Moms, hang on until you are due if you can! ********Anyway, CONGRATS on your little, now healthy baby!!!!!

I went into preterm at 32 weeks, luckily they stopped my contractions then but since then have been in labour a few times and its stopped on its own. I am now due tomorrow Im just glad she has held on them extra 7 weeks, as much as Ive wanted to have her here I know it has been best for her to stay in there cooking. I too have had the steroids. Im just so ready to have her out now I wish she would hurry up and evict herself : ) Glad ur baby is doing okay xx
