At 36 weeks I was 50% effased and the baby has dropped but I am not dialating? I just went to my doctors today and now I am 37 weeks. Still the same. What can i do???

Nothing...Your body will dialate when it is ready and when you start having contractions.......there are things you can do to try and induce labor, but you are only 37 weeks so I wouldn't try anything yet.....

I am in the same situation. At 36 weeks I was completely effaced, but not dialated. Now, at 39 weeks, I'm still only dialated 1 cm!! I agree with Tammy about waiting a little longer to try to induce labor. Good Luck!

I could be way off, but I think I've heard that the fact that you're effacing means more than if you were dilating. Maybe that process takes longer than dilation. Don't quote me on that, though.

OK, found this on the Internet because I was curious: "If you are a first time mom, your cervix will usually efface before it dilates. If you are a second time mom, your cervix will usually dilate before effacement." I didn't know that.

If your cervix is effaced, it means that your body is preparing. When you are ready, your body will tell your cervix to dialate. At 37 weeks, I would savour the last weeks of your pregnancy, and not try to do anything quite yet. Another week will make a big difference for your baby. Good Luck!
