Elective C Section

Is it possible for a woman to chose to have a c-section even if it is not medically needed?

Anything is possible these days. Why would you opt for major surgery though when it is not needed...?

Depends on where in the world you are. Here in South Africa an elective c-section is quite common. But, like Lunamoo said, if it isn't needed, why put yourself through that - just because you can?

I had to have a csection and honestly it wasn't that bad it only took me a week to feel better..and most of that week was spent in the hospital so it was actually a good experience. my scar is only 4 inches across and hidden in my bikini line so I really don't see why so many people are against csections. all my subsequent pregnancies will be delievered by csection as well (b/c the rules at r hospital r against vbachs due to the risks) but also b/c it was a good experience my lil girl was born 10 minutes after I entered the operating room and within the hour I was feeling well enough to hold her (and I held her nonstop for the next week in the hospital) now I'm not saying there isn't pain b/c there was but honestly a week later I felt no pain from the surgery. I started with cervidil to start natural labor and had contractions for 36 hours b4 they opted for a csection (due to no dilation I had preeclampsia that's why I was rushed into being induced) but I can honstly say I will take the csection pain over contractions any day! if u have any questions about it just ask... if u want to ask privately my msn is tannhubbard at msn.com

My doctor wont do one unless it is an emergency.

some things that I have talked to doctors about it is better for the baby and mom to go through labor it helps get the babies lugs and other organs moving and I believe that she said it helps with milk production if you are planning on nursing. Also there are risks with c-sections the scar in your uterus can rupture and effect subsequent pregnancies but I think that’s a really low risk. It’s really up to you and what you want.
