I went to my appt with my OB at 33wks and he told me the baby had dropped already. I'm 36 weeks now, and this is my first. I heard that first babies usually drop a few weeks before labor... does anyone know or have you heard of the approx. time period for a first baby dropping, until labor? Just curious since it seemed a bit early to be happening! Thanks!

Some women drop early, some don't drop until they go into labor. They do say that it happens a few weeks before for most though. But with everything else that comes with pregnancy it doesnt necessarily mean anything. Same with the mucus plug. Some women loose that months before labor, some dont loose it at all.

Hi!! Congradulations! I am in the opposite boat. I am 38 weeks and my little one is not even close. 9 lber!! The Doctor told me the average is 2 to 4 weeks before but some as early as 33 weeks. So, according to her, your right in line! Good luck and congradulations!

I had a friend who dropped at 30 weeks, but did not give birth until 43 weeks!

Engagement, also called lightening or dropping, is when the fetus descends into the pelvic cavity. In first-time mothers, this usually happens two to four weeks before delivery; babies of women who've already had children usually don't engage until labor begins.
got the info from babycenter.com and surebaby.com
