My friend just got induced on Wed. night around Midnight... She delived a healthy baby girl yesterday around 3:00... I would like to share with you what she told me... The pitosin didn't take long to kick in... about 30 minutes. She labored through the night fairly comfortable... I mean she felt the contractions but it was bearable... early in the morning... say 6:00 or 7:00 they broke her water, and the contractions became much stronger... she delt with them for a while then got the epidural. She was a happy camper after that and was able to get some rest. When it came time to deliver, she pushed for about 15 minutes and baby was born. This was her first and she was verrrry scared as all women are. She described her labor as not being nearly as bad as she imagined. Now I know it's not the same for all women, but I'm trying for my first now, and thought it was nice to hear a delivery story that didn't give you nightmares.

DM- Thank you for your input- That doesnt sound so bad. It is nice not to hear all the horror stories. I forgot to say that I am having a little boy. As of earlier this week he weighs approximatley 7lbs 3oz wich means by wed he could weigh 7lbs 11oz ( if he goes by the standard 1/2 pound a week) I know that is not that bad hes average so I m glad that he's not going to be huge! So does anyone else have any stories????

I have another good induction story...my own! I was induced at 38 weeks with high BP. I went to the hospital at 5:30 my bed was ready around 7:30 am. They started my pitocin drip at *:33 am and broke my water right away as I was already 3 cms. I labored for 4 hours with no medication but called for an epidural as the contractions had been very intense from the beginning. Once I got my epidural I went from 4cm to 10cm in a hour and pushed for a half hour. I had no episiotomy and no hemmroids. THe totatl labor was 5.5 hours and I delivered a healthy 5lb 60z little girl who we named Taylor Marie. I had a walking epidural which I asked to be turned down for the pushing stage so I could feel and the experience was fantastic. I do think the pitocin made the contractions much more intense but it definately got my labour going and was worth it. This was my first pregnancy/labour so I have nothing to compare it to but I left feeling extremely satisfied and pleased with the experience. My recovery was also excellent. I ride/own horses and was back to riding 2 weeks after delivery with no pain what so ever. I delivered on December 20th 2005 so obviously the memory is freshh in my mind. Don't be afraid and just go with the flow and be flexible. In the ed your bundle of joy will make it all worth while.

Selena- ur story is almost exactly like mine. I had a baby four months ago and was induced at 37 weeks because my water was leeking. they put in the medication at 10pm, well I didnt feel any contractions till 12:00am two hours later. I was already 3cm dialated when i came in. when contractions started coming-they came strong. after about an hour i asked them to check me and I was still at 3cm. my heart dropped, I freeked out, i thought this baby was going to take forever to be born. I think they gave me a little to much of that induction stuff cuz the pain was making me jump out of the bed. I begged them for some pain reliefe. well, when they checked me an hour after that, I was at 10cm! wow i was glad! But then the anestigiologist showed up and ended up giving me pain relief for the pushing stage. I was trying very hard to control myself not to push. the relief was so great. I pushed for an hour, and had a hemorroid and 2nd degree tear but no episiotomy. He was 7 pounds 8oz. This is my first.

Thank you selena and klasnaya for your stories. I also forgot to mention that this is my first also. You probably figured that since i asked the question :). Im still trying to decide about the epidural.... Ive heard more horror stories on that than good ones. So Im thinking that I will just use drugs through the iv, but we shall see. :)

well I heard horrible stories about an epideral too, so i said I dont want it. up untill i was begging them for some. first they gave me a drug into my iv and it only made me drowsy-no pain relieve. i couldnt walk to the bathroom. well i dont exactly know what they gave me but it was a shot into the back which felt great! but as far as I know, there was no side efects or anything else. I think it depends on the estigiologist how good he is, and your body. my aunt had the same thing and she did good. a friend of mine suffered back aches for a while, but it was at a bad hospital so i avoided that place and whent to another to give birth.

I was induced last month and it went very well. I had already been having contractiond for several weeks prior so when they started the drip it kicked right in, with in a half hour I was begging for the epideral. My contractions were 30 seconds apart and each one lasted about 60 seconds so I had no recovery time so I got the epideral. I was nervous that it would slow labor but they started the drip at 7am and broke my water then too, and by noon I was pushing, 20 minutes later my little guy was born.

Erin- that sounds wonderful to me . I hope mine goes as well as yours. I hope for a halfway fast labor. Was this your first child???

I was induced when having my boy. They broke my waters and contractions started pretty much straight away - fairly comfortable though. Then two hours later they started the drip and contractions started with a STRONG vengeance! Incredibly painful, but only while they lasted. I had an epidural within two hours of the drip starting and it all eased and the rest of labour was a breeze. Good luck!

I have been induced twice using picton & ARM. Both my labours went really fast, compared to the 12 natural labour I had in between. With my first my son was born 3 hours after they broke my waters at 38 weeks. I was induced with my daughter at 36 weeks after being 6cms for 5 days, she came 30 mins after they started the picton. Compared to natural labour contractions I dont think being induced is any more painful.

I ahve beentold that to enduce labour they use a pig sperm based product. IS this true or is someone trying to wind me up?????

I just went through it all less that 2 weeks ago. My water broke with no contractions so they induced me with Pitocin. Pit works VERY fast, lol. Contractions started getting somewhat painful so I asked for the epidural (I was 4 cm dialated at that time). The epidural was slightly painful, but not a big deal (no worse than a novacaine shot at the dentists). It didn't work at all on me though. :( So they offered to redo which I happily accepted and then I was in total heaven! No pain at all and dialated from 5cm to 9.5cm in half an hour!! Totally pain free! I pushed for 2 and a half hours (ugh), my pelvis was too small so I ended up having a c-section which went very well with no pain. Labor contractions suck, but they were handleable (Beyond 4cm I couldnt tell you tho, lol....man I love that epidural!). The only things that sucked in labor was the shakes that I got (freaky feeling), I threw up a few times when my BP dropped from the epidural (just embarra__sing is all), being really scared about the unknown, and I got tired from pushing. Beyond those VERY small annoyances, I LOVED the whole labor experience. My doc even made the c-section fun! lol I'd do it againin a heartbeat!
