I'm 37 wks, and dilated to 1cm. How do I start labor contractions? I don't have castor oil or anything like that, but I heard using a br___t pump could do it, is this true? I know the baby is ready to come out, he weighs 7lbs, 9 ounces and is in the 97 percentile of his age group. PLEASE HELP!

If the baby was ready to come out sweetie, he would. Nothing you can do that will start contractions. It will happen soon enough. GL

sorry i agree, i am 4 days overdue and tried evrything possible, very frustrated, have had 3 others and was induced with all of them 2 of them were two weeks late and with the last i had high bp and protein in my urine, i don't think i can go into natural labour!!! being induced on wednesday so at least i see an end to it, somehow you do manage to get through each day though, well you have to don't you!!!

Some women do not start contractions until they are in active labor. consider yourself lucky. I'm over 38 weeks pregnant and have been having contractions for quite some time. It's no fun! good luck and I hope you have a healthy baby...SOON!

P.S. I wouldn't suggest using a b___st pump, It could cause alot of pain and possibly problems b___stfeeding after birth if they become tender and sore.

I agree with the others. Also, you never really know what size they are until they come out. I was told Mason was going to be 10 pounds so of course I was freaking out, but he ended up being 8 pounds. They are only guesses. My advice, though you probably wouldn;t like it....is simply to hang in there. I know how the last bit seems to take FOREVER because you are just sitting there waiting for it to happen. But honestly, once you have the baby, you barely even remember the pregnancy part. And I find most people actually miss being pregnant, as wierd as that sounds. I know I do. Try to rest up (though it's not easy to sleep when you are that preggers). Because you won't get much sleep when the baby does come. Good luck on your upcoming labor! I hope yours goes just as good as mine did! :D

I also have to agree, trust me you have no idea how bad I want her out of me. The last couple weeks are miserable, maybe that is what makes most of us so inviting of labor. I am 39 wks Dr. estimates baby to be 8 - 8 1/2 lbs now. I have been dilated to 3 - 4 cm for over a week. I have tried everything. membanes stripped 2x, raspberry leaf tea, walks, squats, s_x, balck and blue cohosh, b___st pump, spicy food, pineapple and pressure points. I don't mean to discurage you but I think these little ones come when they are darn well and ready. I wish you all the very best.

My second child was 6 days late and I was huge. I went out and rode the lawn tractor to cut the gra__s and that night I went into labor. 8 hours later dd was born at 9lbs 13 oz. I swear it was cutting the gra__s, but I'll never know for sure. Maybe they just closed the buffet so she decided to come out! lol

I went through this stage where I just wanted labour to start--around 36/37 weeks, and by the sound of it, that's when most women get fed up. Try googling "natural induction of labour". Although natural and induction is an oxymoron. Last thing you want to hear, but in the end the only thing that works is patience...if that completely fails this is what I could figure out: 1. walking --makes baby settle in to right position, starts pushing on cervix which makes it release prolabour hormones. 2. s_xual stimulation--orgasm, nipple stimulation, even a ma__sage releases oxytocin 3. ripen cervix- there's a few "natural" ways that are suggested. Raspberry Leave Tea, Clary Sage Oil, Black Cohosh, Evening Primrose Oil. (Also, prostoglandin in s____n) **some also suggest fresh pineapple--but you'd have to have fresh ones, and you'd have to eat at least 7 to have a hope of anything happening** 4. A little bit fuzzier, but there's also a suggestion that you need to be psychologically ready for the baby. There's some talk of having a good fight with your partner, or releasing anger/worries in any way you see fit (writing, beating pillow) and such---that often labour will occur after that. Good luck---he/she has to come out eventually some way or another!
