Okay this question seems ridiculous coming
from me because this is my 3rd pregnancy, but I was induced with the first 2 and I didn't really have to time my contractions or pay attention to anything but the pain because I was already at the hospital and the nurses were monitoring me. I also never felt the cramping or BH with those 2 and I've been having period-like cramping starting in my back and going around to my stomach on and off all day. It started at 1am this morning and lasted until 6 am then it came back really strong about 1 pm and it lasted until about 5pm, and now I have them again and it's 9pm and they have lasted for about 30 min so far. So my question is how the heck do I time my contractions if I am in constant pain with this cramping? The pain doesn't go away so I know it can't be conractions, but how will I know I'm having a painful contraction if these cramps hurt so bad?? Can anyone help? I haven't had any show or fluid leaking or any pressure so I don't think I'm in labour, but I know I had this crampy feeling when I was in labour before only it didn't go away and got increasingly worse, but like I said before I was already at the hospital, so I have no idea when I should go in if this starts at home? I'm 39w4d.

From what you describe, it sounds like labour to me. With my first I had BH for about 2 wks before labour, and they were all in the belly. I knew I was really in labour when the contractions started in my back and went around to my belly, and just like you say, felt like really bad cramps. With mine they were easy to time, they were 7 mins apart for like 34 hrs then went to 4 mins apart and last for 30 seconds to 1 minute, so I can't help with the timing. If I were you I'd just go to the hospital-they may just send you home, but at least you'd knwo what was going on. Good luck!!

Hey I was the same as you crystal...pitocin with my first and went into labor on my own with the second. It's all about timing my friend. Your contractions need to be 4-6 minutes apart for at least an hour or two before you go in and they should ideally stay the same or get stronger. Your body could be in early labor which is what I was in for awhile. The contractions didn't hurt badlyI just knew I was having them- it was as you mentioned very crampy down there and a little pressure. I called my drs office after hours one time and the nurse said to only go in when I can't breathe throught the contractions and when they're regular. I was like ummm if I can't breathe through the contractions I'm around 7 cm. You can call your dr if you moinitor them for an hour or two and they are 4-6 minutes apart. IF they have you go to the hospital they will monitor you before they will admit you and if the contractions are pretty regular and you dilate some for an hour or two then they will keep you. If your contractions are not regular after about an hour they'll send you home. It sounds like if they're not regular yet your contractions are trying to get regular.
