I am 41 weeks pregnant and convinced that if my membranes are seperated, I will go into labor. How do I strip my own membranes?
I'm fairly posterior, high, thick and maybe 1cm. I'd push my luck to say that I am 1 1/2cm. Has anyone done this themselvs? Please let me know!

Are you out of your mind??? Why on earth would you even think about doing this yourself? Your body isn't ready for labor. Get a grip!!!

I had mine done by my OB at 39 weeks, you really should ask your doctor because of the risk of infection and uterine irritation which can cause terrible lengthy labour.

Intelligent? Let's start with the poster - granted it's a question, but think of the risks involved not to mention at home is not a serile environment... Not everything is a "do it yourself" project... Something like that is very dangerous to do by yourself. especially if you have no idea what you are doing. Let the doctor do what he is getting paid to do. Let your baby come when he is ready... What's the rush?

Thanks for all of the useful advise, but if I wanted nasty opinions, I would have set a booth up at the mall. As far as sterile enviornments go, a home is just as sterile as a hospital if not more. Sick and dying people stay in hospitals, just think of all of the extra germs floating about the air there. Your home has your germs.

I don't think that it would be possible to do it anyways. You would have to reach around your big belly and get your hand wayyyyy up there! For me-wouldn't be possible. And, no, your home is not as sterile as a hospital-sick people or not. If so, they would be doing all sorts of procedures without gloves, etc. I don't rec. it.

if you want it done now then the only true way to get it done is call the labor and delivory say your having pains and go in once there you can request that they strip your membraines before you leave...at least that how they do it here. ita a compromise they do it for you and you get it dont faster than waiting for the next app. good luck

I have never heard of anyone doing that themselves. What if you hurt the baby in the process???? I don't mean to be mean, but the is the craziest idea I have heard of. Do you want to deliver the baby by yourself also? Wow!

wow these people obviously don't understand where your coming from. I do.
im 39 weeks pregnant and I have asked a similar question myself. I don't think there is a way for you to do it at home though because were not doctors and don't know exactly what were doing.
