How Long Can You Be Dilated For

im 1 1/2 cm dilated i was wondering if anyone knows just how long you can go being say 3 cm dilated.

Sheri, if this is your first baby usually you can dilate 1cm per hour but in active labor this can vary the more active you are (walking,s_x,) the more its supposed to speed the process up.

If this is your first baby, have patience. I was sitting at 1 1/2 cm dialted with my first for 3 weeks and nothing. When I did finally go into labor, 10 days after my due date, it took from 10pm until 8am the next morning to get to 3cm. Patience. First babies take a while and getting from 1-4 can take a very long time. You can also sit at cm dialated for weeks. So do not let that be an indication for you that you might go into labor. False hope sucks when things dont go the way you want. Good luck :)

With my first son I was at 1cm for 2 weeks and then 2cm for another week and ended up being induced at 41wks, and I had about a 8hr labor
