Well to say this much, getting the epidural is ALOT less painful then the contractions. So if you really are low tolerance for pain then just look at it that way. I'm not a needle person either, but it helps not being able to see what they are doing. They do numb the area before doing anything major so thats really the only 'pain' you feel but there will be pressure and some popping. Its over in a short time and then you don't feel it at all after that. Hope that helps.

I doesn't hurt but it does feel weird. I think the worst part is they tell you to stay still but your having contractions so your afraid your going to get a bad one and move. But it all went well so it's totally worth it.

The epidural hurt worse than my delivery. Because the epidural did not take and all of the medication seeped into my leg, I felt everything--including when I was cut from one hole to the other. Not to mention I had hellacious migraines for over a month afterwards because my spinal fluid drizzled out during.

You won't even care about that little needle if you go to a good 4 or 5. I had them tell me everything they were about to do. That really helps me in those types of situations, knowing when they're going to stick me so I can brace for it. You will be nervous about it, but at that point you will be able to overcome the nervousness. The relief is almost immediate, you will feel each contraction getting less and less painful. My epidural took 3 minutes from the time he walked in to the time he walked out. You can do it! Incidentally, I'm going natural this time so wish me luck!
