hi Erica
I would say yes though no one will be able to tell yuo exactly when. Basically the whole last month of your pregnancy your body is preparing itself for the birth and you are in different stages of ''pre-labor''. I would say that is what your body is doing and if you're almost 40 weeks your baby will be here any day. Just be patient. On average for first time mothers a pregnancy lasts 40 weeks plus 5 days however that is only an average......I went into labor on the night of my due date and gave birth the next morning so I was 40 weeks 1 day.
Best wishes for your birth- everything will be fine! Sleep as much as you can now......you will miss those sleepins for a while!

I believe the cramps are from dialtion. I got them for about three weeks before actually giving birth ( which was 41 weeks +1 day) It won't be too much longer, hang in there!!!

I'm alittle over 48 weeks and for the past 3 weeks I've been going through the same stuff. I even went to the hospital because I thought I was in true labor, and to my supise, I was dilated 2cm. The nurse said I "should" go into labor in about two days and that was 5 days ago. Nobody really know anything when it comes to a due date; although I'm really sorry you are going through this, no one can actually say "when". I did hear on the other hand that a heating pad on the back can help induce labor, but be carefull because if it's too hot it could hurt the baby.
