Induction For Convenience

My due date is tomorrow and I had to go to my doc for a stress test today. So having never had a baby or stress test before, they neglected to tell me to eat before my 8 AM appointment.
Needless to say both the baby and I were quite sleepy. After being given a Jolly Rancher and one hour of being monitored, the nurse says the doc will be in. 15 more minutes go by, the nurse returns and she rips the ticker tape off and disappears again. She returns a few minutes later, starts to remove the monitor and announces that the doctor will induce me.. I am alarmed and say what;s wrong and she says oh not now, but next week.
Mind you my doctor predicts my baby to be in the 6 pound range, I am displaying no adverse symptoms.
So, in the hallway, standing at the nurse's counter, my doctor says that it is no big deal that if I don't have the baby by mid next week she will give me something on Thursday night and induce me on Friday as she's on call.
This really upset me, am I justified or off base? My opinion is my medical care really sucks.

Meags, I would strongly suggest talking to your doctor to find out exactly why she wants to induce you, tell her that if nothing is wrong with you or the baby, you would rather wait, I wish I was being told only a 6lb baby, but im 34wks and they are already thinking in the 8-9lb range. Sometimes you have to step up and really voice yourself because most doctors think that every woman wants to be induced right after their due date. So i definitly say try talking to her, find out what is really going on.

Hi Ashlie, I definitely will talk more to her, our brirf conversation made me feel like nothing is wrong, but she wants to get it done in her time frame if it doesn't happen earlier. I am with you on prefering a natural birth if there are no problems, I will voice my opinion at my next check. Good luck to you, sounds like you are having a big guy or girl!

Yeh take control love and tell her you want to wait. Some dr act like it is up to them to decide when and how the baby will be born when its not. Goodluck
