How will you know the time of your labor?

I was scared I would never know when I was going to go into labor! I went to bed one nite and I was having some pain but it just felt like I needed to use the washroom, after a while I finally fell asleep, about 2 hours later I woke up because I had a sharp pain, turns out I was in active labor! but be careful, Braxton Hicks feel similar to the real thing! I was going to wait for my water to break but it never, the doc had to break it for me!
