QUESTION: does the discharge come with a foul odor after your membranes are being stripped? i think my doctor lied to me and stripped my membranes without me knowing. he said he couldnt find the babys head, yet it was very painful with his finger up there. i am dialated to 3 cm. after the v____al exam i experienced bloody brownish discharge, and mucus in it that smells very foul. please help. thank you and good luck to you all with your pregnancies.

Having your cervix checked can be very uncomfortable, if not painful and bloody discharge is common afterwards. The odor I isn't common though (not even with having your membranes stripped) so I would call your dr about it.

I am going on 38 weeks and tomorrow i am suppose to get my membranes stripped because my blood presser is high, but after the research I've done, it seems like It only works a margin of the time and is painful with false labor pains following. My last pregnacy I also had high blood pressure and was induced with pitocin and delivered 3 hours later. Should I skip the stripping and the pain or take the chance of it possibly helping me to go into labor earlier "more naturally" ? I wonder why my Dr wants to strip my membranes rather than induce me with pitocin .

Maria, my midwife has told me that 1/7 women will go into labour within 48 hrs of having their membranes stripped. I had it done last week (and trying again tomorrow), and it wasn't any more painful than a smear test, so just uncomfortable. It caused cramping for a few hours afterwards, but nothing too bad at all. Most doctors would rather kick start labour naturally than artificially, which may be why he suggested it. Also, induced labours (using pitocin etc) are said by some people to be more painful than natural ones, as your body is advanced very quickly, rather than building up gradually to the birth. So you wouldn't necessarily be saving yourself any pain. I'm booked in to be induced on 12 Jan, as un the UK they don't let you go more than 10 days past your due date, but in the mean time I'm trying everything I can to start it naturally, including having my membrames swept a second time. Good luck.
