Not A Question In Labour How Much Longer

I started getting contractions at 3am this morning, they were a little uncomfortable but o.k. However, I couldn't sleep through them so I just lay there waiting for it to get light! By 8am I was sure I should get going to the hospital as I was in quite a lot of pain and they were coming every 5 minutes or so. The hospital said I should wait a bit and by lunch time they had stopped all together!!!! It's now 4.45pm and every 10 minutes I feel like a train is running over my stomach, back and legs! I feel fine between contractions but don't know how much longer I should wait before going to the hospital. I know I'm waffling but I'm just trying to find as many ways to take my mind off this as possible. It's my first baby and I had intended to only use gas and air but if this is early labour I dread to think how I'll feel later!! I'll let you know how it goes!!

All I can say is Good luck. No advice as this is my first too. Hang in there.....I was told 10 minutes apart if you live 30 minutes or more from hospital, 5 minutes if closer..... I would be calling the DR every 10 minutes if I was in yoru state!

Hi! I hear you! I am having the same problem as you. I was having some contractions 3-5 minutes apart at 2:00am and had a doctors appointment today. I am still having them but they are not killing me yet just a little painful and uncomfortable. The doctor told me not to come in until the pain was becoming really bad so now its a waiting game and driving me nuts!!

I wouldnt wait too late to go because if you plan to get any pain medicine you better get there in time to get it. And trust me...if i were you i would get more than gas b/c all gas is going to do is make you sleepy, you will still feel all of the pain. When i went into labor i had already intended to get an epidural but was waiting as long as possible, but when i was 4 cm dialated i couldnt stand the pain anymore b/c the contractions hurt like hell!!!! Good Luck! I hope everything works out for you.

Don't wait to long. If they continue, go to hospital. If they're going and stopping like that, it can be a sign that the baby is in distress. That's what happened with my mother in law and hubby. He had cord wrapped around his neck. not to scare you ........ but ....... better to know than not know !
