Lately whenever I wake up , I have numb finger tips. Also, when I'm working my finger tips get really numb, especially if im typing. This also happens when I open something or have any use of my fingers. My doctor checks my blood pressure almost every day, and it shows normal all the time. Could this be water retention? or just swelling of my hands. My hands do seem to swell towards the end of the day.

Sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome. I had it bad with my first, my fingertips were numb for the last two months and I had terrible pain when trying to open anything...nothing much can be done for it except to wear splints at night..

I have experienced that too. My BP is great. I think my DR said that it has to do with water retention and also the way that you baby is sitting. Sometimes, he said, the baby can put pressure on nerves.

It's normal. Many women swell with pregnancy. I wouldn't worry as long as your bp is fine and the swelling isn't excessive.

When I was working, I was waking up with numb fingers because I was so swollen and at night you're not moving your hands to move the fluid around. I was also getting numbness when I would try to open a jar or something like that. I think just cause I was so swollen. The fluid also presses on the nerves on your wrist, like baby-love said... carpal tunnel. Once I stopped working, a lot of my swelling went down. And now I don't have the numbness in my fingers anymore. Allthough I do still have sausage fingers!!... Just try to drink as much water as you can, that actually helps keep your body from retaining fluid

I had that occur and it was carpal tunnel syndrome. The interesting thing is that it started around 30 weeks, lasted until about 34, and then went away. Maybe you will get lucky like that too!

I'm 27 weeks and have just starting getting the tingling/numbness in my right hand. I've noticed my fingers are slightly more swollen than before, as well as my hands in general. I tried sleeping with my hands elevated and it helped with the swelling but not the tingling/numbness.
