I went in Wednesday for early labor. I was in the hospital and monitored. My contractions were 4 1/2 minutes apart. I am 35 weeks. I was given a shot of terbutaline and a pill. I am now taking the pills every four hours at home. I am supposed to go see the doctor next wednesday. What tests can be done to see if the baby is ready to go ahead and deliver so I can go off this medication? It is awful. I am totally incapacitated. I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old and can't do anything. My mother has had to come stay with me every day!

If the baby was ready, they wouldn't stop labor. Talk to you doctor if you're having problems. Good luck.

My doctor will do an amnio to check the lungs and steroid shots if needed, if I understand him correctly, when there's complications and delivery is needed. It doesn't sound like you have complications other than this??

Hi! Thank you for your responses. I went to the doctor today and he took me off the medication. He said that if I go into labor now, they won't try to stop me. I feel much happier now that I can go back to my regular life. Even if it will only be for a while (the baby will be here soon!). I did have other complications. My blood pressure rose with the last bout of preterm labor. Also, I had a lot of bleeding which the doctors think is coming from a spot where my placenta had separated very early in this pregnancy. The bleeding stopped and is now just a scant amount here and there so I think that they are confident that the baby is ready and so am I. Thanks again for your help!
