I'm just curious to know, what does it feel like to get the epidural? like is there a huge thick painful needle or will it hurt really really bad? I'm sure it will be nothing compared to labor pains, but I'm afraid of needles and was just wondering what it will be like. Thanks.

Well, I have had 3 children, 2, I had an epidural. My 1st one wasn't that painfull because they 1st gave me a painkiller through my iv, the 2nd one I didn't have any painkiller through my iv and the epidural was so painfull and weird to get. I remember feeling alot of pinching and alot of clicking on my spine. It hurt! So if you are going to get one I suggest getting a mild painkiller 1st!

if you are having contractions without any pain relief, you will welcome the epidural needle...you may not even notice the pain from the needle b/c i don't recall it hurting at all and i hate needles...the pain from contractions is excruciating.

with me the only needle I felt was the one the used to numbe the area around where the epidural was going to go in. You do feel pressure and there will be a pop but it really isn't painful.
