Spotting Cervix Stimulation

Hi threre! Just went for an exam because I am having cramping, etc. I'm 39+ weeks and doctor said I am 80% effaced and 3 cm. dialated. Could be any time now. I had some spotting after the exam...what causes this? Also, I've heard that having the doctor do an internal exam can stimulate the cervix and cause labor to start...anyone heard of this? Also, I've tried the Evening Primrose Oil...has anyone had success with this?

my due date was 2 days ago and doctor said any day now...but my husband and i had s_x last night and afterwards when i used the bathroom..i noticed when i wiped there was some spotting (it was red in color)...what does this mean?
