my friend had home water birth and LOVED them with all three of her children. I would have too but my labor was too fast and my place was too small in my opinion. I highly recommend water births. I had my dd 3yrs ago in a hospital and the experience was horrible, I had pethadine which slowed the labour and caused my dd's hb to drop. 2nd time around I was determined to do things different, and ended up having a completely natural drug free water birth giving birth to a 9lb 30z ds in a birth centre and loved it. I didn't have any tearing, partly due to the water and partly due to ds taking ages to come out. The only thing I was disappointed about was you couldn't see very much of the actual birth in the video due to it being under water. Even if you don't want to give birth in the water, just being in the water is a tremendous pain relief and I honestly don't know how I would have coped so well without the comfort of the warm water surrounding me. The likelyhood of something going wrong is very low if the midwife knows what she is doing for a water birth. If/when I have #3 I definitely want to labour in the water again and hopefully will get to have another water birth. Only thing I will say against it is don't hop in the water until the labour is really progressing, as the weightlessness the water provides can slow the labour down if you are not having hard contractions to push the baby heavily against your cervix. Other than that I LOVED the experience.

I just watched a show on Discovery Health about this. It was on like an hour ago. At first it looked so relaxing. But I don't know if I could handle the pain. I hear really good things about it.
