I see all of these questions on muscas plugs or membrane sweeping, can anybody tell me what that is? I'm 29 weeks pregnant and heve never heard of either of these. They sound pretty disgusting! haha

Joanne, a mucous plug is baisicly just that, it is a plug of mucous in your cervix, and it usulally falls out before labor, but in some women it falls out earlier or later it is also reffered to as a "bloody show" because it can be tinged with blood. A membrane sweeping is when the doctor manually sprerates your bag of waters from the surrounding tissue ans cervix. I just had this done today, and i can tell you it is not a comfortable procedure!! It hurts, or a least it hurt me!! But it is suppossed to help bring on labor because it helps release prostoglandins, which help to get your uterus contracting. I am now having alot of cramps after having this done, so maybe i'll finally go into labor!!!! im due in 2 days and getting a little anxious :) i hope this helpped you.

the mucous plug can come out in a heavy discharge way, some women lose it all at once, but for me, I lost it it chunks.
