Could anyone who has already had a child tell me some of the things that happened right before you went into labor or contractions started. Thanks for any post.

Well for me, I woke up at 4am with contractions. I always thought the pain had to be really strong in order for me to know it was actual labor, but the pain was dull. i walked around my house, ate cereal, sat on the couch, and the contractions kept coming. They never really got stronger until hours later when my water broke (in the elevator on the way up to l&d)!

Mine started at 7pm on a Monday night. Throughout that week I had been having dull achy cramps in my lower back that would sometimes wrap around to my lower front. They would come and go pretty steadily, but nothing major. Almost like period cramps but with a tightening. Anyways, that Monday night I started to time the contractions and they were getting closer and closer together but not too strong or consistent so I went to bed. I woke up at 2am the next morning with the same kind of cramping but they were a lot worse as time went on. We decided to time them and when I couldn't fall back to sleep from the pain I took a shower, had some cereal and we left the house by 6am. I had the baby at 1:13pm that day! I had all back labor by the way.

This was my first child (born July 24th!) Well, early on, like a couple weeks before I went into labor, I started dialating and effacing, and losing my mucous plug (there was NO blood in it) so I basically thought for 2 weeks that I was going to go into labor any minute! But the day before I finally went into labor I started having some bloody show. Right about 24 hours later, I woke up at 4 am with my first contraction. Basically just felt like a cramp, was strong, but not unbearable. But I KNEW. From that very first one, I knew it was the real thing. They started out at 10 minutes apart and 30 seconds each. Within an hour they were down to about 6 minutes apart and I started having a lot of diarrhea (natures enema), that lasted about an hour, and within 3 hours (from the first one) they were about 45 seconds, stronger and every 3-4 minutes. I went to the hospital then. Like the others I couldnt get to sleep once they started so I wandered through the house, ate some breakfast and tried to watch some tv, until it was time to go. My water never broke till I was in the hospital and around 4-5 cms.

MY FIRST CHILD WAS A LONG LABOR BUT IN THE END YOU FORGET IT ALL WHEN YOU SEE THEIR LITTLE FACE. WALK AS LONG AS YOU CAN AROUND THE HOSPTAL THIS BEATS LAYING IN BED AND HELPS SPEED THINGS UP . MY SECOND CHILD I BARELY MADE IT TO THE HOSPITAL 45 MINUTES AND HE WAS THERE. EACH PERSON'S BODY TAKES LABOR DIFFRENT AND EACH LABOR IS DIFFRENT. PREGANANT WITH #3 AND WHO KNOWS HOW THIS ON WILL GO . JUST HAVE TO HAVE A POSTIVE ATTIDTUDE AND REMEMBER YOU GET A BABY IN THE END . BEST OF LUCK

My labor started about 12am and was a dull ache in my lower back. From 12 to 2am the contractions became stronger. At 2:30 I began to time them and they were 2min and lasting 1 min. At 4am we went to L&D where I was only 2cm and 70% effaced. The contractions (Back Labor) were getting stronger and stronger and they gave me some morphine and put me in the jacuzzi tub. I stayed in there until 7am, and the Dr. came in and checked me. I was 5 cm and went back in the tub...with the help of some fentanyl. At approx. 10am, the contractions were becoming way to strong to lay in the tub, so I came out. I was using the gas by this time. The Back labor was soooo painful (sorry not to scare you), but OMG! By this time I asked for an epidural! But by the time the anethist came down to do it I was 7cm! Then by the time it began to take effect I was ready to push and had such an intense pushing pain/urge! Your body just takes over!!! 25min after I began pushing, my ds Ashton came out with the cord wrapped around his neck twice and he wasn't breathing. The amazing team of Dr. and nurses worked their magic and my son is an amazing , beautiful and healthy little man!! It is so true that once you give birth and see their beautiful faces...you forget all that was bad during the labor! I will definately do it again!! In 2 years of course!! Good luck and just try to relax!!

Oh yeah, my son was also posterior...which was the cause of the intense back labor! And this was my first child.

I had been having a lot of false labor contractions for the 2 weeks leading up to the real thing, so when they started up again at about 5 pm on January 3rd I figured it still wasn't actual labor. My husband and I went and got our hair cut and then went food shopping. The contractions were mild (felt like a sweeping energy starting at the base of my uterus and spreading upward) I didn't need to concentrate or even breath through them much, so that also didn't help to alert me that I was in the first stage of labor. At around 7 we started watching a movie. This is when they started picking up, both in intensity and length...they were now between 5 and 7 minutes apart (I was having my husband time them) and I was finding myself gripping the arm of the couch at each peak and I also concentrated on breathing through them. Now I was starting to wonder if this could really be it! Soon after the movie was over I had bloody show (I was never aware of my water breaking at any point during labor)....that's when I knew it was really happening. Things really started picking up after that, and my little boy was born a few hours later at home.

Your water might break before having your baby naturally, or you may have to have it induced by your doctor. You will have a lot of cramps and pains, fever, and nausea. Try to have a natural delivery, if possible, better for your baby. Once you see your baby, all the pain you experienced will be there, but you won't feel it because of the little gift you birthed. Good luck. keep support members with you always.

with my first daughter i was ten days over due and woke up at exactly 7am thinking hmm i need the toilet well i stood up and my water broke it took me a few minutes to realise what it was, i didnt start to get pains untill about half ten and then i did not give birth untill ten to eleven that night.
with my secound daughter i was ten days late and woke up at 12.30am with a bit of tummy ache nothing major so i went back to sleep i then woke up again at half two and the pain was still there maybe a little worse so i couldnt sleep no more i got up and walked round my living room trying to ease these pains it did not even occur to me until half four that i mabe in labour lol so i woke my partner and we went to the hospital i gave birth at ten to six in the morning.
with my third daughter i was two weeks late and was taken in to hospital to be induced they tried to start me off at 1pm but nothing happened at seven they checked me to give me the second dose and strapped the monitor on my dayghters heart rate was off the scale so they could not give me any more i also had a temp so they wanted a drip with antibiotics in me i refused they gave me an internal to see if my cervix had dilated at all and it had not it was only 1/2 cm and still high so the midwife tried a sweep and then i went and had a bath at eight i started to feel slight contrations then all of a sudden i was doubled over with them i had to get my partner to fetch the midwife to check me she said oh you are at 3cms we can go l&d if you like i was said yes yes yes lol i wanted gas an air when i got down there i had to wait 20 minutes then they checked me i was at eight cms and my water broke then within minutes i was pushing it was all so fast it was unbeleivable i was so glad lol.
Now im pregnant with my fourth daughter i hope this labour goes as fast as my last one lol
