when in labour does anyone know whether you should go by strength of contractions or how far apart they are before you go in, i am having tightenings about every 5 mins but there not really painful, they were quite sharp until i had a bath i don't know what to do i don't want to go into hospital just to get sent home again

For me it was by strength. With my 1st they were 5 min and then 3 and then 2, but it wasn't getting any stronger. I happened to be overdue so they broke my water and then they got strong. With my 3rd they were never regular, but started getting worse and then I knew. I've had them today for a couple hours and they got as close as 3 min. apart for 30 minutes, but some were bad and others not much. It went away. When in doubt call or go in. Also, I lie down and if I can doze I know it's not real. In fact they usually subside when I rest. Don't you hate the waiting and wondering of labor. This is my 4th and I still get my hopes up with every contraction and cramp! BTW, I didn't mention #2 because my water broke and they had to induce.
